Awww, thank you! Vala remains difficult for me. Every month or so, though, I accidentally make an icon that I well and truly like. The sort that if I saw someone else had made it, would make despair for ever making something that cool. I really like this Vala *points to icon* that way. It's very different from my usual style.

Sam/Vala is good on concept though I'm disappointed in execution. I'm trying to learn to merge two pics for icon purposes. I think I still have a ways to go but it was fun to play with, yanno?

Of course you know what I'm snagging but I love the Jack ones...they crack me up...I like how you played around with the same image some...it just goes to show that you can get several versions from one image..I joined a community just for that called 10chevrons where you take an image and make 10 different icons from it...fun stuff...these are all great Mish!

I'm leery of posting various versions of a cap because I know some people are on dial-up and that adds to the time it takes to download. For instance, I know nobody will want #2 when it's sitting next to what I think of as the superior icon of #1 but it's what I made before tearing up the internet for a picture of a propeller beanie to steal the top from. And it's a far cry from the first time I worked with the cap (#3). I despair when I see a page of clever icons so I thought I'd risk it and show some of the less successful attempts along with the ones I really liked. :)

I should look into that comm. I need prods to stay creative rather than digging deeper ruts.

Awesome, all of them! #57 is so cute, and of course I love all the Jack ones -- 7, 10, 16 & 17 are gorgeous, BtS-propeller-beanie!Jack totally cracks me up, invisible yo-yo and the tape measure are so clever and so well done, and wanted!Jack and Valentino!Jack are so classy, and #15 catches my eye every time, it's really striking. Love the Teal'c ones, and 'no milk?,' and Brothers in Arms and S/V, and all the J/D (especially 'family'), and #33. They're all fantastic -- beautiful and fun and creative.

You are so made of awesome. :) You're a kick ass writer, you make the most wonderful Jack icons, *and* you say lovely things about my icons. I completely and totally adore you.

You're also the one who pimped the O'Neill group; joining there has sparked a lot of creativity for me. I don't know why that challenge comm rather than the other 10 or so I belong to worked the magic - I'm operating under the hypothesis that it's Jack's/RDA's irresistible hotness - but I'm so very grateful.

Oh yay! There is some love for the Pop Art. I spent far too long turning a b/w Campbell's soup can into that icon but I had a good time. I'm glad it isn't totally unloved. :)

I joined the oneill_icontest comm and something about the caps they choose has sparked a wave of icons from me. I love, love, love that it has me unblocked. Some days I still make crap but others? Not so much. :) The downside is that my limited computer time is spent making icons rather than reading LJ and commenting. I feel so out of touch.

I'm glad posting the "here are some of my goofs" icons worked for you. So many times I look at the postings by icon makers whose work I find inspirational and I despair of ever getting to that level. Then I see one of them post the 11 or so "rejects" that it took to get to the one I love and I think, "maybe I'm just not persistent enough," and, "it's no accident that the icon turned out so brilliant." I kind of liked the transparency of seeing what went wrong before something went right.

Yay! Humor is so hard. I don't do it easily - but I have to say that Jack inspires a lot of silliness. :)

Yay! Love for that Sam icon! I think my text there failed me because, at least in the cap, it looks as if Sam is checking herself out and pleased with what she sees. I think in the icon it just comes across as a "yeah, she's pretty" kind of thing, rather than the more humorous idea of a woman checking out her own assets.

That texture is from...eep -- either oxoniensis or discolore, I think. I can probably pinpoint it for you at home tonight if you want to hunt it down for your own icon career. :)
