TV Meme: Day 2
Day 01 - A show that should never have been canceled: Firefly
Day 02 - A show that you wish more people were watching:

I have no idea what the ratings are for various shows. I'm assuming that In Plain Sight must have had some issues because they've "re-vamped" the program and now it feels more pedestrian.

The focus on Mary's family life with her mother and sister is being downplayed/eliminated and I'm sorry for it. Yes, at times it was overdone but it was wonderful to have a show that revolved around three flawed but strong women. Sadly, the show's no longer centered around women talking to women about something other than men and recurring characters of color are being eliminated/sidelined. I still enjoy the show because Mary is a kick ass character whom I enjoy watching, the interaction with her partner Marshal Marshall Mann is always a winner, and I'm happy to see Paul Ben-Victor (Invisible Man). It just isn't the same.

I don't know what the deal was with the first Rizzoli novel. It seemed like the entire thing was framed to make you hate her as much as you did the villain. Rizzoli was a harridan, basically. The entire book is a hot mess. The focus is on a male investigator who is Just So Perfect he can't understand why people may not like him (as he "falls in love with" and beds a rape survivor who is the focus of their case) and it all brews together into a barely mediocre boilerplate crime thriller.

That said, the fact the show is called "Rizzoli & Isles" makes me hopeful that the focus will be solely where it belongs, on the two women. That and the fact I have no idea who else is in the show. I'm going to ignore the books entirely and take the series as its own entity. And hope for the best. ;-)

Wow. Somebody read that book and thought, "this could be a little more serialized." Wonders never cease. Thanks for the warning because there's a book I do not need to read.

I'm still psyched for the show but maybe a little more cautious as to what it'll be.
