Catching up with SPN
I've been mainlining Supernatural of late to catch up. I've enjoyed the prettiness that is Jensen Ackles since Dark Angel so I was surprised to find that my fave is not His Hotness but rather Misha Collins's Castiel. This show has some serious gender issues, true. They're bad enough that I wouldn't watch even though I like the whole Armageddon storyline.

But I can't look away when Castiel is onscreen.

I KNOW, RIGHT? I adore looking at Jensen and I adore Jensen with Jared (because they're so goofy and cute together) but the show itself has worn me out. BUT Castiel is one of the best characters I've seen a long time. Not better than Bobby but still. And there are days when I miss John Winchester and then there are DAYS when I miss John Winchester.

Also YES with the gender issues. OMG, wtf SPN?

Castiel is a breath of fresh air -- and Misha Collins is breathtaking in his nerdy tax accountant self. Jensen and Jared are adorkable and hot, true, but they just don't hold me the way Castiel does.

(I'm having to reply during ads so sorry for spamming you.)

I think I'd be happier if SPN just forgot that women exist and had only male characters. Or if they did the ancient Greek thing and had men play women.

Watching Zachariah at the beginning reminded me I like him, Anna, and Uriel, too. Not nearly in the same way I like Castiel but they're fun and interesting, even when they're pissing me off.

GAH, that's exactly what I was thinking! Well, about the female characters in general, yes, but also I DO like Zachariah as a character and all the angels were profoundly interesting *because* of their humanistic issues. I CAN RELATE. :)

I was also thinking that every major character I've ever loved (in every fandom) has been capable of big dickery. The conquering heroes have to be deeep for me to love them. It's the all good or all bad characters I end up being bored with. Dean being truculent tonight was DEAN but I totally love that about him. And Castiel is like a Cliff Notes version of what Dean has been through with the father and the faith and the crabbypants, etc. I really adore him so much. He's deeep.

I thoroughly enjoyed tonight's episode, although what it needed to be was at least twice as long. Or three times. I wanted more story. Poor Adam. :( As if being consumed slowly by ghouls wasn't a sufficiently horrible fate.

And yes, he IS Dean's experience distilled down into a less sprawly storyline. I can totally see them post-Apocalypse getting drunk and comparing absentee father experiences. ;)
