Catching up with SPN
I've been mainlining Supernatural of late to catch up. I've enjoyed the prettiness that is Jensen Ackles since Dark Angel so I was surprised to find that my fave is not His Hotness but rather Misha Collins's Castiel. This show has some serious gender issues, true. They're bad enough that I wouldn't watch even though I like the whole Armageddon storyline.

But I can't look away when Castiel is onscreen.

Yep, yep, yep.

It's so weird because I'm really not that great a fan of either of the brothers. They're okay. But Castiel?!?! And Bobby? Heh. Oh yes.

I'll divide my attention when it's a non-Castiel episode, surfing the web. Castiel's in the "Then"? I'm glued to my tv-watching chair. I was quite surprised because I don't think I've ever seen a man prettier than Jensen but there it is. Castiel owns me. I must find/make Castiel icons before this one gets worn out.

And they SO need more Bobby.

I KNOW, RIGHT? I adore looking at Jensen and I adore Jensen with Jared (because they're so goofy and cute together) but the show itself has worn me out. BUT Castiel is one of the best characters I've seen a long time. Not better than Bobby but still. And there are days when I miss John Winchester and then there are DAYS when I miss John Winchester.

Also YES with the gender issues. OMG, wtf SPN?

Castiel is a breath of fresh air -- and Misha Collins is breathtaking in his nerdy tax accountant self. Jensen and Jared are adorkable and hot, true, but they just don't hold me the way Castiel does.

(I'm having to reply during ads so sorry for spamming you.)

I think I'd be happier if SPN just forgot that women exist and had only male characters. Or if they did the ancient Greek thing and had men play women.

Watching Zachariah at the beginning reminded me I like him, Anna, and Uriel, too. Not nearly in the same way I like Castiel but they're fun and interesting, even when they're pissing me off.
ext_18980: studios angel devil[identity profile] slavelabour.livejournal.com on April 16th, 2010 02:20 am (UTC)
GAH, that's exactly what I was thinking! Well, about the female characters in general, yes, but also I DO like Zachariah as a character and all the angels were profoundly interesting *because* of their humanistic issues. I CAN RELATE. :)

I was also thinking that every major character I've ever loved (in every fandom) has been capable of big dickery. The conquering heroes have to be deeep for me to love them. It's the all good or all bad characters I end up being bored with. Dean being truculent tonight was DEAN but I totally love that about him. And Castiel is like a Cliff Notes version of what Dean has been through with the father and the faith and the crabbypants, etc. I really adore him so much. He's deeep.
Mish: Castiel -- Ray of Light[identity profile] hsapiens.livejournal.com on April 16th, 2010 02:30 am (UTC)
I thoroughly enjoyed tonight's episode, although what it needed to be was at least twice as long. Or three times. I wanted more story. Poor Adam. :( As if being consumed slowly by ghouls wasn't a sufficiently horrible fate.

And yes, he IS Dean's experience distilled down into a less sprawly storyline. I can totally see them post-Apocalypse getting drunk and comparing absentee father experiences. ;)

I wish I understood what everyone loves about that guy, sincerely. I just can't seem to get it.
Mish: Castiel -- Ray of Light[identity profile] hsapiens.livejournal.com on April 16th, 2010 01:52 am (UTC)
Wish I could explain it so that you got what I get. I'd love to share the squee with you. :)

I like watching his evolution from outsider, cold Warrior of God to an involved, individual actor. He has that whole BAMF air -- and I'm a serious sucker for competence. It does not hurt that Misha Collins is smoking hot and an interesting person to boot but I fell for Castiel before I knew who the actor was.
superbadgirl[personal profile] superbadgirl on April 16th, 2010 02:03 am (UTC)
He's all right. I just don't see him the same way the rest of fandom does at all. Oh well.
Mish: Castiel -- Ray of Light[identity profile] hsapiens.livejournal.com on April 16th, 2010 02:07 am (UTC)
I was surprised that he was so popular. I've only seen the fandom as it whizzes by on my f-list and it has always been all about the brothers. I hadn't heard a peep about this "new guy." I've had that reaction, though, to many popular actors (Tom Sellek, George Clooney) in my time so I get that whole, "what's the hub bub?" reaction.
[identity profile] bleekabyebye.livejournal.com on April 16th, 2010 07:08 pm (UTC)
Yes, Cas! He be so pretty! ;-P
Mish: Castiel -- Finger! Lips! Scruff! Debauch[identity profile] hsapiens.livejournal.com on April 16th, 2010 07:28 pm (UTC)
You saw him at a con! Is he as delightfully real as he seems to be in clips? I love con virgins before they've got stock answers to questions they've already heard/answered a thousand times.
[identity profile] bleekabyebye.livejournal.com on April 17th, 2010 04:40 am (UTC)
The con we went to was his first. He was great. He didn't put up with any shit. Some woman asked him a stupid question. I think it was to do his deep Cas voice saying something to Dean, and he told her that he's not her monkey. He didn't do it. LOL!
Mish: Castiel -- Wrath Face[identity profile] hsapiens.livejournal.com on April 17th, 2010 05:23 am (UTC)
Eeek! Now see, if I were looking to fill time I can so see myself asking that question, although I'd be more likely to ask him if his throat hurts after a day of doing that voice because it *sounds* painful. But this is why I keep my butt firmly planted in my chair rather than asking questions. *nods*

I'm so jealous that you got to see him lose his con cherry. Wish to hell Creation would sell videos. (I'm assuming this was Creation? I know he has done at least one of theirs as I've seen the glorious ass shots while he's signing those ineffably stupid banners. I'd still like to see Carol's house and her banner collection.)
[identity profile] bleekabyebye.livejournal.com on April 17th, 2010 05:38 am (UTC)
I think other people had him doing the Cas voice at the con, so he was sick of doing it. Cas' voice does sound painful when he does that deep throaty thing.

Yep, it was Creation. Ass shots are a must for all the lovely actors we like! Wonder if anyone ever hangs those banners in their houses?
Mish: Misha -- Makes Internets Implode[identity profile] hsapiens.livejournal.com on April 17th, 2010 05:44 am (UTC)
I'm getting to use some of the eleventy billion icons of Castiel & Misha that I snagged from the internets last night! \o/ \o/ \o/

Ah, then if he'd done it once that's more than enough.

I think that Carol hangs hers -- or at least some of them. I have this vague memory that [livejournal.com profile] selmak asked her about it and she has one of those houses with rooms that are two stories high. But that could have been a bad dream following a soul-scarring Secaucus food experience. I can see wanting one when you're caught up in the swing of the con but they always seemed horribly impractical to me. Just the sort of thing to get folded up and stowed in the attic.

I much prefer my ass shots. ;-)
[identity profile] bleekabyebye.livejournal.com on April 17th, 2010 06:02 am (UTC)
I really like your icon. ;-P

Oh, Secaucus. LOL! I'm so glad they moved the cons from there!

Ass shots! \o/

Mish: D/C -- Nekkid Misha? I'll Be in My Bunk[identity profile] hsapiens.livejournal.com on April 17th, 2010 06:22 am (UTC)
Thank you. I spent many hours dedicated to the vry srs bsns of finding Castiel and Misha icons. It was tough work, I assure you.

Thank you for the links! I can't believe Creation allowed the guests to personalize the autographs (it's because I wasn't there, right?) -- and I love Misha's personalization. I'm so totally not jealous.

So they changed hotels from the cess pool for the SG-1 con, eh? I never actually met that hotel as I had to cancel on that con but I'd read enough reviews and then heard [livejournal.com profile] selmak's experience confirming its horribleness and was not sorry to have avoided it.

I can't believe I'm missing Creation cons. I'm obviously not getting enough sleep.
[identity profile] bleekabyebye.livejournal.com on April 17th, 2010 09:44 pm (UTC)
You're welcome! You've been busy! LOL!

No problem. I love when they personalize autographs. Creation should realize that if the guests personalize the stuff, people can't resell them. You remember they are all about the money. ;-P

Yeah, that hotel was disgusting. It was nice to be able to stay with my brother-in-law and sister-in-law for the '09 SPN con. Saved a lot of money too!

I haven't done Gold in awhile now. I hate giving that money to Cretin. Jared canceled at our '09 SPN con. People were so upset who bought Gold. That is a risk you have to take though. Any guest can cancel at any time. We did the cheap weekend package and sat in the very back. :-) You can get into more trouble in the back! }:-P

I like the way Shore Leave runs things. The guests seem so much more laidback than at the Creation cons where they set so many time limits and shit on things.
Mish: Misha -- Kneel for Overlord[identity profile] hsapiens.livejournal.com on April 19th, 2010 02:02 am (UTC)
I'd like to try something like Shoreleave. I've only experienced the two ends of the con spectrum: Anal Retentive Creation and "hey, who's up for a nine hour wait for something less than we promised you?" Gatecon. I hate how regimented everything seems at Creation but I do appreciate knowing I'm going to get the photo I purchased and that I won't get a lesser photo than the first 150 people due to lousy planning by the organizers. I liked Gatecon better because it was entirely fan-run but there was a lot of waiting around in halls and frustration.

I can understand being upset over Jared canceling; those Gold Passes are expensive. Of course, I'd have been going for Misha so I would have been perfectly happy. ;) It is, alas, the danger in booking a con. I've had Amanda and Michael cancel -- but one of my favorite cons was the SG-1 one where all the mains canceled. Dan Payne & Alex Zahara were fabulous and there was a lot less craziness.
[identity profile] bleekabyebye.livejournal.com on April 20th, 2010 02:24 am (UTC)
I've heard the horror stories about Gatecon. Never experienced one though.

We did have a fabulous time even though Jared canceled. We were excited that Misha was there. The other actor guests were fun too. :-)
Mish: Castiel -- White Wings[identity profile] hsapiens.livejournal.com on April 20th, 2010 11:23 am (UTC)
I had the misfortune of hitting it the year they did the absolute worst at organizing/delivering on promises but I find it hard to forgive as it was...memorable.

Misha would be worth the price of a gold ticket, I do believe. But I find it happier to spend time with guests who aren't mobbed by deranged fans because they can sit and talk and generally hang out without fear of molestation. Those tend to be the non-leads and they tend to be a lot of fun. :)
