Is anyone interested in a LIMS contest for SG-1?
ETA: [livejournal.com profile] sg1_lims -- We now have enough votes to say that yes, we'll be having a LIMS!! If you wish to participate and haven't answered the poll, please fill out the poll so that I know to track you down and let you know when we're ready to open the community. We're collecting caps, organizing themes, and setting up the community right now!

~~**~~

Is there interest among icon makers for a LIMS contest for SG-1? [livejournal.com profile] lantis_lims is a well-run community and I enjoyed participating; I'd really like to see something like it for SG-1.

I used to think LIMS was ego-destroying with its eliminations and reasons for voting, but I found that knowing I'd get feedback spurred me to try new techniques and take risks. It was immensely helpful to me as an icon maker to receive comments, both positive *and* critical.

I've wished there were a similar community for SG-1 for a while. So, is there interest? I'd be willing to mod but I'd like to have either co-mods or, as the lantis_lims has, a bunch of volunteers to help. And, of course, I would like to have participants!

[Poll #1165719]

I'm sure there are lots of things I don't know about running a comm such as this; I've never done it. If you have any helpful suggestions or ideas, I'd love to hear them.

Also? Please pimp this poll. I would like to reach the widest range of SG-1 fans possible. Thank you. :)

Yay!

As far as suggestions or opinions, I feel that the most important thing is to be consistent. What bothers me most about the majority of contests out there is when the mods disappear, and let things slide. They don't stick to the schedule. They set a deadline for submissions, and then don't put up the vote for long past that. They leave the voting up for weeks without any word about why the delay. They post new challenges when they feel like it. Or they post a challenge, and then disappear for months, and sometimes never come back at all. All of this tells me that they don't really care about the com they're running, and they don't respect the people participating. As long as we do what we say we're going to do when we say we're going to do it, things should all work pretty well. :)

I agree 100%. I've had icons "held hostage" for months in some competitions and that chaps my hide. If something's worth doing, it's worth doing right. That's why even though I created the comm back in October, I am only now seeing if anyone wants to play in it. I wanted to be certain I was in a place in life (post-holidays) where I would follow through. :)

I'm currently working on some additional coding to add functions like "edit entry" and "edit tags" to the recent entries view. I've paid for a couple of months (it was really cheap since for some unknown reason, they'd given me a couple of coupons for a dollar off) so that I can mess with the code. Once the paid time expires, the changes are supposed to stay so long as we don't change any of the code. It's worth $3 to me to have full function.

[livejournal.com profile] elfcat225 has offered to help gather screencaps. Do you want to take part in discussions of what sorts of screencaps to choose for each round? (I've never done this before so I'm trying not assume anything.)

Yes, absolutely. I think cap choices is really important, so I'd like to be a part of the discussion. :)

It should be easier for us to keep things running along according to schedule, since we're not trying to do it alone. This way, we can either split up duties weekly, or we can each do everything, but trade off every other challenge. In any case, we can cover each other when we're on vacation, or have a super busy week ahead. I can even let you know my vacation calendar for the rest of the year, since I've already got it all planned out. *g*

Excellent! I think I'll start off by creating a filter that has you and elfkitty and post to my LJ.

I can't tell you how relieved I am to have you as a co-mod. I'm far more optimistic that this will be a success. If anyone signs up to play, that is. :)
