Catching up with the f-list
Now that I again feel human, I've been diving back into the depths of my f-list after losing the past couple of weeks to poisoning by fish. I see that I've missed some biggies -- a couple of friends suffered deaths of friends and family, one's brother ended up in the hospital a 2nd time for a horrifying skin bacterial infection, a divorce, confessions of fears at starting a new job -- and some more positive developments -- a friend going metrosexual (I so want photos!), trip reports, sparring with windmills, and so on. While I was recovering, Tom Delay quit and the rest of the country joined my planet and discovered that the emperor has no clothes that we aren't safer with Bush in office.

Please don't take my silence as disinterest. In truth, responding to bad news is hard for me. I suck with words and I am terrified of saying the wrong thing. It literally takes me an hour or more to figure out a couple of sentences that I think appropriately conveys my feelings without coming off as trite or insincere or boorish. It seems doubly useless when I'm trying to respond so long after the fact.

Oh, the Humanity!
I personally have been very offended that over the last few weeks you have failed to respond to ALL of my posts, not just one or two here and there. Really Misty. I am very disappointed in you. Don't you know that your whole mission in life is to keep all your LJ friends satisfied with prompt responses to their posts. I know we have discussed this before. Come on, now. What's it going to take, Misty. Really. What's it going to take?

Re: Oh, the Humanity!
I get a thrill out of seeing that SG-1 icon. It's hysterical!

OK, on second reading maybe the post sounds a bit more apologetic than I meant it to sound. I chose the wrong time to get poisoned because it looks like Big Stuff was a foot.

Funny you should mention responses to your posts...because I've been puzzling over the one you made about glasses, their contents, and role of the observer for a while. Not that I have anything profound to add to the discussion but it was one of those, "aha! I just realized/had reinforced something about myself" kinds of moments.

And what'll it take? That's easy. A winning lottery ticket so that I may devote myself to making others' lives better. Or their f-lists more spammy. Depending, as all of life does, on one's perspective.

I am glad I could help.

I am sending you a karmic lottery ticket via telepathy. However, if it is a winner you have to share it with me.

Re: Oh, the Humanity!
*scratches head* Not certain how I'd cash a telepathic karmic lottery ticket but you're welcome to half the proceeds when I get 'em.

Welcome back! Glad to hear you're feeling "human" again.

Thank you. :) Hope that all is well with you.

Absolutely. Busy, but all is well. Thanks for asking. :D

Yay! I'm very happy to hear this.

I've long given up on trying to stay fully up to date on LJ. And I don't even disappear for long periods of time.

I would say, though, that poisoninh yourself with food that you're allergic to is quite a good excuse though ;)

Oh, I'm eternally behind on LJ - usually I'm the last comment on someone's post and I'm resigned to the fact that I simply must think through stuff before commenting; I'm not quick off the start line.

I hope that your family is doing well and that your thesis is progressing apace. I know I am panicking over the Teal'c fic. Three weeks! Eep! Time to get writing.
[identity profile] moonshayde.livejournal.com on April 7th, 2006 10:15 pm (UTC)
Remember, it doesn't have to be very long. And you've got some time yet.

The thesis is mainly done now. I handed in a credible copy and I'm just waiting to wrap things up.

Bro isn't better and has gone for a CAT scan. He might have to be operated on in the future. We're hoping whatever is wrong isn't too serious.

Other than that, same old same old.

[livejournal.com profile] jalabert should receive special recognition when I get this written. The fact that she hasn't strangled me is due solely to geographic distance. ;-) I know it need not be long; I just make the whole writing thing more stressful than it deserves.

Congrats on the thesis. You've got to be feeling some of the pressure relieved.

I'm very sorry to hear about your brother. I am very close to my brother and I'd be stressed; I'd rather eat fish again. I'm not a praying person in the traditional sense, but please know that you and your brother are foremost in my well-wishes and hopes for a total and complete remission/cure/recovery. *hugs*

usually I'm the last comment on someone's post --The [livejournal.com profile] la_directora strategy! :)
Mish: Thwarted Darcy[identity profile] hsapiens.livejournal.com on April 8th, 2006 01:31 am (UTC)
Yeah - it's a strategy.

Oh, I'm glad you're feeling better!

And don't apologize. You make me feel bad for simply not bothering to read my flist's posts sometimes. I go in spells, which, of course, have nothing at all to do with the people and/or what's going on in their lives.
Mish: Thwarted Darcy[identity profile] hsapiens.livejournal.com on April 8th, 2006 01:38 am (UTC)
Thanks. :)

Didn't mean to make you feel guilty. I, too, cycle between extroversion and introversion that has nothing to do with my friends. Like I said, the timing was bad. Several friends had major upsets and I'd at least have tried to have been a sympathetic shoulder because I'm not currently in my more extreme place of introversion.
