Year in Review Meme
Borrowed from [livejournal.com profile] moonshayde and [livejournal.com profile] superbadgirl:

[1.] What is one thing you did in 2005 that you'd never done before?

Conducted a wedding ceremony.

[2.] Did you keep your New Year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

I don't make New Year's Resolutions.

[3.] Did someone close to you give birth?

No.

[4.] Did anyone close to you die?

Yes, my grandmother.

[5.] What countries did you visit?

New Jersey. (Any other year, and I'd have a real answer but I didn't break out the passport this year.)

[6.] What would you like to have in 2006 that you lacked in 2005?

Wisdom. More money than I know what to do with.

[7.] What dates from 2005 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

July 23: The day my grandmother thanked me for visiting and made certain I knew how much it meant to her.
July 26: The day my grandmother died.

[8.] What was your biggest achievement of the year?

Spending the last week my grandmother was alive visiting with her and telling her how much she meant to me.

[9.] What was your biggest failure?

Not being able to make it back to California when Grandma was on her deathbed.

[10.]Did you suffer illness or injury?

Yup - I managed to get strep for the first time in my life and it got in my sinuses. Very unpleasant.

[11.] What was the best thing you bought?

My convertible - a.k.a., the Cutemobile.

[12.] Whose behavior merited celebration?

The US Coast Guard.

[13.] Whose behavior made you appalled?

Voters of Texas. Bush. Cheney. FEMA. The Catholic Church. Pharmacists who refuse to sell medications. And on and on and on.

[14.]Where did most of your money go?

I assume we're talking discretionary spending and not the boring 'living expenses & retirement investing' answer? Travel. I was on the road in one way or another for more than a month.

[15.] What did you get really, really, really excited about?

Huh. Not much, really. It wasn't that sort of year, I think.

[16.]What song will always remind you of 2005?

Haven't a clue.

[17.] Compared to this time last year, are you:

i. happier or hardened? Neither, really.

ii. thinner or fatter? Thinner, but not as 'thinner' as I'd hoped to be

iii. richer or poorer? Richer.

[18.] What do you wish you'd done more of?

Traveling to Canada and Alaska. I adore the Pacific Northwest and exploring more of Alaska is on my list.

[19.]What do you wish you'd done less of?

Procrastination. I'm very bad about that.

[20.] How will you be spending Christmas?

In town. Should be a fairly low-stress, family get together.

[22.] Did you fall in love in 2005?

Fall in love anew? With my car. Still? With one of the best men on the planet.

[23.] Any one-night stands?

No.

[24.] What was your favourite TV program?

Battlestar Galactica. And I've recently fallen in love with CSI.

[25.] Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?

No. Hate is wasted energy though I have a deep and abiding dislike of those people I named as 'appalling.'

[26]. What was the best book you read?

Deconstructing Brian by Randall Morgan, though that's a hard choice because I read much excellent fiction throughout the year.

[27.] What was your greatest musical discovery?

They make car stereos that work with my iPod!

[28.] What did you want and get?

A fun car.

[29.] What did you want and not get?

Tolerance. Defeating Prop. 2. A winning lottery ticket.

[30.]Favorite film of this year?

Not a big fan of most films.

[31.] What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

Had a family get-together - and am old enough to know better than answer that question.

[32.] What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

Other than winning the lottery or defeating Prop. 2? Being able to relieve my grandmother's pain in her final years of life.

[33.] How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2005?

Classic.

[34.]What kept you sane?

Friends.

[35.] Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

Gale Harold, Randy Harrison, Michael Shanks, Rainbow Francks, Jamie Bamber, George Eads, and Gary Dourdan

[37.] Who do you miss?

My grandmother. And my mother who has moved to Virginia as part of starting a new business.

[38.] Who was the best new person you met?

Wow. I met so many wonderful people. I met a bunch of family at my grandmother's funeral. I met a lovely group of Stargate fans in New Jersey (even 2 Sam and Jack fans!). I finally met Mick, my fellow Shanksaholic and one of the nicest human beings on the planet, in the flesh. I also made the acquaintance of many fine and interesting people online.

[39.] Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2005:

What? People learn valuable life lessons every year? Mine aren't so nicely laid out. Hmmm...if you aren't having fun, it's time to find a new place to hang.

Is this better?

And you should see southern NJ if you haven't yet... we're REALLY a different country.

Re: Oops...
After staring for the last several hours glancing at your icon, I'm guessing that's Jack's crotch? Much better than that S&J stuff. ;-) Thank you! btw, you know you don't have to switch your default icon each time, no?

I'm still wondering what planet I was on when I saw the Orgasmic Janet icon. Teryl (and Janet!) needs more smutty icons, damnit.

Re: Oops...
Yeah, I know... I was kinda due for a switch anyway though... and if anyone has a problem with Jack then they shouldn't be on my friend's list :-)

And yes, that is his crotch :-)

Though I really should make a new one with the scene from the lowdoen where he dropped his pants....

And they DO need more orgasmic/smutty icons. I just need to find some good piccies and someone to make them for me.

Re: Oops...
oops -- meant to note that southern Jersey girls don't really seem all that diff from Texas girls. And THAT ought to make you weep. Whether in joy or despair, I leave that call to you.

Re: Oops...
And the 5 pounds of makeup being almost enough if it has to be scraped off your face.

Re: Oops...
Um... I'm feeling the need to be insulted here... Especially since I have NEITHER!

:-P

Re: Oops...
Neither do I. That's what is so funny about it. :) It's the ethos of the local beauty standard. My hair is only big if I fail to blowdry it.

Re: Oops...
Ah, see... mine gets big IF I blow dry it. And since I've chopped it all of it's nice and tiny :-)
