Iconfest!  
Come on over and play!



[livejournal.com profile] lemonpunch is hosting an iconfest that runs through 26th May. This is your chance to request an icon or several. You can be very specific (linking to caps, requesting specific verbiage) or you can be more general.

If you're very lucky, [livejournal.com profile] lemonpunch might fulfill your request. If you're unfamiliar with her work, you're in for a treat. She creates small masterpieces; what she does with color, lighting, & textures is magical. Also? She is the only other iconist I know who has made a boatload of Calvin & Hobbes icons so she HAS to be amazing.

If you're hoping that I will try my hand at your request, please link me to your request so I'm certain to see it. I'm trying to keep up but the post is already a little unwieldy; I can only imagine what'll look like in a week and a half.

Yes, it would. I thought of you when I was posting this. I downloaded all the E! photos I could find in hopes of making some for you but they were all tiny and very poor quality or someone had added huge text all over them. Very disappointing. Has it been released on DVD yet?

However, if there are some quotes that you want, whether it's text-only or on the best I can do with the lousy images, let me know and I'll see what I can do.

That's the bummer about being on a nostalgia kick. The other one I'm fixated on lately is Simon & Simon - also apparently impossible to find.

Yeah, they are on DVD now, but I personally have no ability to cap them. Even if I did, I wonder if the 40 year old images wouldn't be terribly clear anyway?

True you may not have a way to do screen caps but if it's available on DVD, then it might already be capped over at [livejournal.com profile] dj_capslock or she might be able to rent it. She's extremely nice about capping on request if she can get hold of the DVDs.

Exactly, right? :D I thought that if I requested something from people in this group, I'd want something that would be a pain for me to do myself. Of course, that means it'd be a pain for anyone else to attempt... Preferred are Amelia Earhart and (because Amanda Tapping said she's the person she'd most prefer to meet in history) Dorothy Parker. :D

I'm going to admit defeat on this. :( I don't have the right kind of cap of Helen and I'm lost for how to make a modern screencap look like an ultraprocessed, altered portrait. Anyhow, this is as close as I have gotten:



I'm continuing to think about this and hopefully before the Fest is over I'll have solved the riddle. Right now, though, I don't see my way from where I am to where I want to be. Maybe someone else is also working on this prompt and will come up with something awesome?

I'm not publishing it there because I don't want my name attached to this when [livejournal.com profile] lemonpunch makes up the big icon post at the end. :)

Wow! I understand not being satisfied with the result, but I really do love that. It's beautiful! What I was thinking of may have been impossible (or taken huge giant skillz). Either way, this is amazingly close.

I'm going to take it! If you don't want your name attached on the main post, does that mean I shouldn't credit in my user pics? I'm more than happy to! If you don't, I'll just make a little cryptic note. :D

It doesn't take giant skills, just bigger ones than I have. :) Hopefully since I posted here rather than there, someone with bigger ones than I will still fill it? (I think with as difficult as it is, it would be too easy to say, "whew! don't have to do that one!")

A cryptic note is fine with me. :) I don't care too much one way or the other about credit when I DO like the end result. I'm going to keep trying because now it's a challenge but I'm not experienced at blends; I can picture what I want but I don't know the steps between where I am and there. 'Course, I may finally get something I like in about 2 years...

Hmm... the only times I recall her wearing any kind of hat... twice in the pilot (a fedora in the rain, and a wide-brimmed hat in the 1880s), and she had a scarf at the beginning of "End of Nights."

This is her in a hat looking vintage. :D I wish the show would give a solid date for when she became brunette (she's brunette with Amelia Earhart, so before 1920-30). But still. :D

I must have seen the only hat episode then! The only caps I have for her are very dark and sans hat. I want to control all that hair so that she better matches the sleek Amelia. Hm. Back to square one. I can try to see if I can master the lighten technique and just merge Amelia with her hair. :|

I think so! I'll have to ask people with better memories than mine. :D But I don't think she's worn a hat outside of the pilot or the second season premiere headscarf (such an awesome scarf it was, too :D).

Oh, for God's sake, what am I thinking of? ~points to icon~ She wore a fedora in this episode, and it was gorgeous! I even have an image of it on my profile. Tsk. I have to see if I can find caps for it.

And those caps ARE so gorgeous. My God. I was going through: "I have to check every single page. For, uh, [livejournal.com profile] hsapiens." And it's NOTHING compared to how beautiful Haunted is. Just, um, just FYI. It has Amanda Tapping in a white dress shirt, black vest, with a black tie. It's the hottest thing all year, in a season that included her undressing out of a wet white blouse.

You are too kind. I like the way Amelia works with the background but it would be nice for Helen to blend with her rather than looking like a layer plopped on top of Amelia and poorly feathered.

I wish I had caps half that great for SG-1! I really appreciate your diligence in finding caps. I know what a hardship it was looking at all those hot pics of Amanda. Your sacrifice will not go unnoticed. :D Amanda is a smart woman; she knows what her fans want and delivers it.

I know I'm using this icon a lot but it's by [livejournal.com profile] narniacmr and it's just the most gorgeous icon of Sam that I can't help spamming with it.

Oh, it was such a trial. Such an ordeal! Woe! ;-D And the caps are so great because they come from great stock. They use special cameras for the special effects, so it leads to gorgeous stuff. She really does know what her fans want! The vest-tie combo first showed up in the webisodes, and she brought it back. Same with the mermaid character; they keep bringing her back in the series (including implication that she and Helen have some kinky sexual stuff between them :D)

That icon deserves to be overused! It's beautiful!

I've started trying with the Emergency caps. So far, I just have one but some feedback on font choice/style would be good. I don't know that I have the right logo:



The quality kind fo stinks but that's from one of the better quality scans of a promo pic.

I don't know if they had a logo per se. The Emergency! was usually in bold white, which wouldn't do for most iconning, I'd think.

Anyway, it doesn't matter. I have a handful of professionally done icons (your text included) and I've jury-rigged some of my own (b/w one up thread). I should be satisfied. It's not worth anyone jumping through hoops. ;)

Oh yeah, [livejournal.com profile] seldomspeaking had far superior caps. The coloring and detail is a million times better in hers. I HIGHLY recommend yoinking those instead.

If you're anything like I am, wanting a particular icon set and not being able to find it because nobody's really made it only makes you want it more. Once I get what I want, the drive is gone and then I can find the next impossible thing that I want. ;-)

I watch IPS though I haven't been fannish about it. It's a rare show, actually, that makes me want to get on the internet and talk to other people about it. Normally, I'm happy to be a passive receiver of television.

I've made my good friend [livejournal.com profile] jalabert many personal icons (long before I ever started posting them, she gave my squares of squee an outlet, despite how crappy many were) and I'm still waiting for her to send me some photos from...High School Musical?...so that I can make her some more icons. But it is true that I haven't ever opened up a general request line. You should consider yourself as having one, however.
