Erp!
Well, I had disassembled the computer for packing and find myself...still at home. There's no point in joining the 100+ miles of traffic when they have no gas for those already there. :( I am *surprised* at this problem as I ran into it trying to get out of Corpus in 1999 when Bret hit. In fact, Corpus and Texas A&M did this great big study on how to avoid this problem in the future. I DID keep wondering that they weren't announcing when they'd start contraflow but it never occured to me that they wouldn't.

So...for now I'm at home. I'll reevaluate the traffic and gas solution again later today. If that isn't an improvement, I'm planning a 2 stage evacuation. First, I'll make a trip to take food and supplies to the office. I work in the same building as 911, so it's a fortress with its own generator. (I don't know that they plan to supply me with power and all, but the building is safe and there's an interior room that my house lacks. There's also an interior hallway and multi-story, covered parking. Not my first choice by far, but I trust my dogs' lives to it.)

If they get the traffic worked out, I'll immediately leave. I still want to get the hell out of here. If I'm likely to get caught in the hurricane in my car, I'll ride it all out at the building. It has a microwave, tiny refridge, and it's not all bad. It's just not my nice hotel room. *sniffle*

Moral of the story? I can plan ahead all I want but if those who are responsible for traffic flow and support logistics haven't foreseen the difficulties of moving that volume of traffic, then there's only so much I can control. I'm just pleased that I have a safe fallback. *sigh*

Re: mish!
Thanks, hun. :) I'm fine; just digging myself out from under the stress of the past week. I'm now working on getting my car to the mechanic. It wasn't all bad and heaven knows we got off very lightly. A few days ago it looked dire.

Hope they fix that whole contra-flow issue, though I can well appreciate their difficulty in estimating the number of people who would choose to evacuate.
