Another Year, Another Con
It seems that waiting for breakfast becomes my LJ update time. I'm packed and ready to head back to Texas. Next year's con moves to Cherry Hill and I can't say that I'll be sorry to never again stay at this hotel. On the plus side, the elevators worked this time. I have a nice view of the Manhattan skyline and it is particularly convenient to get into the City but Secaucus is not my idea of a great vacation spot.

Random con thoughts:

1. The shortest route between Point A and Point B in Secaucus involves an extended tour of industrial parks and at least one turn into a scary-looking garage.

2. Michael Shanks was early to the breakfast and spent a long time at every table. He wore black leather and black denim. I'm not so clear on what's up with the hair but it was obvious that whatever it was, it was on purpose. I might not be down with it but I was so ridiculously thrilled that he wasn't wearing a baseball cap that I was willing to forgive and forget.

3. Michael Shanks gave us a deliciously evil laugh when we were discussing his casting as Lucifer in the upcoming Rage of Angels. He remains optimistic that the project will be produced.

4. Do not ever get between Jay Acavone and his $150 jar of facial cream.

5. Tony Amendola reads Shakespeare beautifully. The fact that he followed it with a theatrical reading of doggerel and bad internet jokes only proved I'd happily listen to him read anything.

6. Kate Hewlett is an excellent playwright. This was a wonderful discovery last night. She's also a fun guest and clearly enjoyed being onstage.

7. Cliff Simon? He is still incendiary hot. They tailor his wardrobe on the show and it's all real leather. Oh yeah, and since he's "ripped" (his words), they made a decision to remove the sleeves from most of his wardrobe in the forthcoming movie. The guys (MS and RDA?) made sport of him for this while filming.

8. A third movie script is being written. I have no idea if that means we'll *see* a third, but Brad is penning one.

9. Alexis Cruz is still a thoughtful kind of guy but the cabaret act is not one you'd expect from a guy who was on the schmaltzy, Christian-fest Touched by an Angel.

10. Paul McGillion's Scottish accent reasserts itself in direct proportion to the hotness of the woman standing in front of him. :)

11. I'm still sorry that Steve Bacic couldn't make it.

12. Cons are still all about the friends. No surprise that I had fun with the usual suspects ([livejournal.com profile] selmak, [livejournal.com profile] janiekins, [livejournal.com profile] triciabyrne1978) but also with [livejournal.com profile] niamaea, who turns out to be exactly as cool and nice and pretty as I suspected. I got to know a lot of people from Gateworld this time around. I would be willing to wade into the abyss in order to keep up with Dave and Marla, who were just plain wonderful.

13. Meeting [livejournal.com profile] triciabyrne1978's family was...interesting. It's good to know that she comes by her smut gene naturally.

14. The hotel bartender didn't get to us often but he "made up for it" by forgetting to include the mixers. However, a glass of tequila really isn't an improvement over the margarita I ordered. Not that that stopped me from drinking it.

15. Creation Cons are MUCH MUCH MUCH more enjoyable when they're run by a really nice, laid-back guy. With the exception of a few incidences, it was easy to forget that we were at a Creation Con. It was the (mostly) pleasant event that I suspected a con could be. I almost don't feel overcharged. ;)

We had BOTH Gary and Adam in Burbank at the Farscape con...

Next time WE get Brian! LOL

Poor you! That had to be awful. Brian is a lovely, laid back kind of guy. He and Monica bent over backwards to make this con a pleasant one and it really showed. There were few of the normal con aggravations and I really, really appreciated it.

Since the con is moving next year, how did they work buying next year's gold tickets? Same as usual?

You know they said this was going to be the "final frelling farewell Farscape" con, but they announced Sunday that they'd had enough commitment to do it again next year. The 'scapers are...devoted. They apologized "for any confusion"...

I don't think I ever received my Joe Flanigan photo op from last year. I couldn't find it when I was looking through my stuff for something for BB to sign. I have the others - Jason, Colin, etc., but no Joe. Maybe it's just stuck to the back of one of the others, but maybe I just never got it. Did you get one with Joe? Did you get it? Were they mailed instead of pick up at the con (cuz some *were* done at the con, I think).

Next year's con will have 8 fewer seats per row. They're going to eliminate 4 outer seats on each side. Rather than renumbering, there will be groups numbered 5-19 and 20-34. Anyone already sitting in and requesting a return to seats 1-4 and 35-38 are left to the tender mercies of Leticia, meaning they're screwed. At least, that's what Brian announced at the con (well, he didn't say the part about being screwed; that was my translation). Who knows what merriment Creation will brew when it gets back to its hive offices?

I didn't buy any photo ops last year (or this one!) so I'm not any help. Sorry! Besides having weight issues I'd rather not have immortalized, I realized that I'm just stowing the pics in a drawer with all of my autographs and never looking at them during the year. That's a hefty chunk of change that I've repurposed to more constructive things. I do miss getting my own Canadian, falsely cheerful "hi!" from Michael each time.

Thanks.

Well, I don't look much at *me* when I look at my photos, but it gives me at least one most of the time decent photo of them from a con. And I have actually put about a dozen in glass-clip frames but haven't hung them yet because the apartment manager is going to paint...and I didn't want to put them up just to take them down when he decided he was ready.

I really cherish my pictures with certain people - Amanda (all 6 of them!), Teryl (2), Donny (2?), Carmen, Corin and Colin (2) especially. Well, and Ben now. And to a certain extent Christopher, although I think I like the one my friends took with me standing on a chair at the breakfast just as well). Michael - meh, half the time he's wearing a hat and/or got that "I just sucked a lemon" pinched expression. I got one of him and Chris together, too.

And ZOMGosh! How could I forget Cliffie! and Alex Zahara (love him). I'm so sad I didn't get piccies with David Nykl, Dan Shea or *sigh* Eric Brekker at SG-10, but money was starting to run low... I also have not great photos with Alexis Cruz, Gary Jones, but I generally like the ones with Jason Momoa (guh!) and Dan Payne (ZOMGosh! TALLLLL) from NJ last year.

And I am SURE I got one with Joe...must email Creation!

I only have RDA (guh! *melts in puddle of fangrrrl goo just imagining it!), Claudia (looking forward to it much more than previously) and Beau (ALWAYS wanted to meet all the Bridges!) of the series regulars to meet; oh, and Lexa...big whoopteedoooh there.

:) I wish I could look at them in the pics. I tend to obsess on my own imperfections. Now, then, I HAVE thought of paying to have just a picture of the actor by him/her self but I know everyone would think it was weird and try to get me to get in it. Just something to avoid, really.

When I buy pics, I buy them with everyone and that gets expensive. That pays for an extra night in the hotel, going to a museum, and eating out at good restaurants for a day, for instance.

No matter what, though, I'd pay to get a hug from RDA. If he isn't too worried about insane fans and thus too standoffish to wrap an arm around a girl during the photo shoot. I'd love a good picture of him. :) I would love to meet Claudia. I bet she's a real hoot. Lexa? Not so much. Besides being unbearably jealous over her good fate, I haven't really ever gotten into her prjects. I wasn't impressed by her Carolyn Lam and I kind of cruelly think she got the work because of connections rather than talent. That's probably just sour grapes, though, which is silly because much as I drool for MS I wouldn't in a million years trade him for the wonderful man I have.

Wasn't Creation selling the *.jpg files from past Cons? If the pic was sent and lost, that might be a way to get the image.

I know that at ShoreLeave 28, there was a piccie taken of Carmen and Amanda without any fans. Edith was going to order one, but I don't know if she did. (She also doesn't want to get photo ops - until she loses weight. If I said that, I would *never* get any photos!)

And yes, Creation *is* now selling the jpegs for $10 each. I emailed Gary to see if there's a possibility of getting one from an old con, too.

My weight fluctuates wildly, depending on whether I'm paying attention to my thyroid and whether I'm exercising. (Those tend to track 100%, so if I'm not paying attention, I'm also not exercising so it's a double whammy.)

*fingers crossed for you*

Well, I'm in luck. In fact, apparently I wasn't the only one not to have claimed their photos from last year's con, as there were quite a few up on the site. You can navigate to past cons and see your picture if you hadn't gotten it at the con. I was able to email them the picture #, so I should be my Joe picture from them when they get around to it. Which is cool.

And you can, in fact, per Gary, order jpegs of all the old Creation cons, at least the ones that Chris the Photographer took. Not sure if that applies to older ones that Richard Arnold or whoever from Creation took. Apparently, all you need is the number on the back of the photo. You pay Chris $10 per jpeg via PalPal using DEADAIR@NYC.RR.COM for the PayPal address. You have to tell them in the PayPal description box the image number and at which convention it was taken. Supposedly he'll send it by email in a couple of days. If you don't use PayPal, you can email him for other arrangements at chris@creationent.com.

Yay! I'm glad that was resolved satisfactorily. :)

I have no idea who took the photos at the cons I attended. There were a couple of the pictures, though, I'd like to have the jpeg for...I should check that out. Thanks for the info!
