Home computer functional again
This has been a week of computer upheaval for me. I have a new laptop and am now re-familiarizing myself with Macs. I finally agreed to let them upgrade my computer at work so I've been transferring files like mad and re-doing all of my settings. And, to top it all off, my graphics card at home started doing this bizarre thing where it wouldn't display correctly. Icon making is impossible when 100x100 pixels displays like 100x125 pixels.

So...I've spent a long period without Photoshop. Laptops really aren't good for Photoshop projects like icon-making, I learned. BUT, I've now replaced my graphics card (I am not a hardware person so the fact that I bought something that works - mostly - in my very ancient CPU on the first try AND installed it should impress the pants off of you) and everything is just as it should be! Now, to try to produce some entries for my weekly icon contests.

I feel your computer!pain (installing/upgrading=most boring thing ever)...*squeezes*

But yay you're back!!! :D:D:D:D

Working on new computers is strange and exciting at the same time, isn't it? :-)

Very, very boring. I forgot to move all 900+ of my fonts to the new work computer. OK, no big deal, I copy them to my mega-thumb drive and take them into the office Thursday. Then I realized I'm going to have to start afresh for my Mac fonts since not all files work for Macs. *sigh* I know it's worth it but sometimes I have to remind myself.

I'm only sort of back. My mother has to have surgery to correct a medical error and she arrives today. I found out Monday night. I'm madly cleaning and rearranging the guest room so she has a place to stay.

Working on a new computer IS strange and frustrating. Nothing is exactly right yet. I forget how much I rely on everything being "just so" and it comes as a shock each time. It will be wonderful - I'm not complaining at all - but I lose a lot of productivity while adjusting.

*loves right back*

Oh! I hope it's nothing too bad! *sends good vibes anyway*

Yes, yes! I absolutely agree! I love the new computer, but there are still a shitload of things I have to "fix" before I'll finally feel at home again...

I especially have to get rid of the new mouse (or maybe buy a graphic tablet, a v.v.v.v. cheap one). It's wearless and pretty and all... but I just can't work with it, especially on icons. I need absolute precision (you know how hard it is to work on 100x100 px icons!) and I can't get the kind of precision I need with it. :((

Anyway, I really shouldn't whine, because...YAY new comp! I'm just a bit impatient, you know? ;-)

*squishes with love*

Thank you. It isn't anything horribly bad. A couple years back she broke her wrist and the incompetent ass who "set" it by yanking on it without any pain killer doctor managed to set it wrong. (Which was so obvious from the way her wrist healed looking funny and I've been harassing her to have it checked by a second doctor but we won't go into that. Oops, I just did.) She has to have surgery to either free a pinched nerve bundle OR, if that fails, have her wrist re-broken. Good times. :|

Definitely need a very, very accurate mouse for tiny little icons. I've started dreaming of a graphics tablet myself, but I haven't checked any out yet. If you get one, let me know what kind and how you like it, please. :)

Awww...I'm sending all the positive vibes I can for your mom!

Thankfully, graphic tablets are not very expensive (unless you're aiming for the really, really good stuff)....:-)

I was thinking of buying this one: http://www.my-volito.com/volito/intro.asp?lang=it (don't mind the Italian *g*), it looks pretty good and it's quite cheap...*wants*

Thank you! :) I'm sure she'll be fine.

I've never had a graphics tablet before so it wouldn't make sense to start with the really expensive stuff. How would I know if I really liked it? But when I'm doing fine detail pixel by pixel, it seems as if a pen would work better than a mouse.

That does look like a cool tablet. I'm pretty sure I've heard of Wacom before as a good maker. I'm hoping to switch over entirely to Mac and sadly that model isn't Mac friendly, but there HAVE to be a zillion of them out there for Macs. I guess I'd better start looking around.
