76 Icons: Stargate, Dr. Who, Torchwood, Battlestar Galactica
The loss of my Photoshop hard drive slowed me down but since I had backups of my most often used stuff and a detailed list of resources, I was able to get back the stuff I most needed. I'm still missing my screen cap collection like mad. My older collection of SG-1 caps were stored on a separate HD that didn't fail. Thus? Lots of SG-1 icons and icons made from caps provided by various challenges.

Some of the SG-1 icons have been inspired by conversations with my LJ friends. The Daniel icons probably won't be overly popular this time around but after a discussion over at [livejournal.com profile] riverfox's LJ about the way that his glasses frame our perception, pardon the pun, of the character, I wanted to celebrate his glasses. Or lack thereof. Also likely to lack an audience are the Daniel/Sam icons but after [livejournal.com profile] moonshayde wrote about getting flames for writing incest because she posted a Daniel/Sam story...well, I started seeing it again in some of my caps so I went with it.

50 Stargate - mostly SG-1, a couple of SGA
20 Dr. Who/Torchwood
06 Battlestar Galactica

STARGATE SG-1 & a couple stray Atlantis icons. The Atlantis writers abused Aiden & Carson so they're now honorary SG-1 characters. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I love these, especially the Jack ones. The way you framed #11 is particularly beautiful - so moody. And I love the way you adjusted the colors just a bit in #10 for a slight red/green Toulouse-Lautrec-like effect - nifty! I was curious which episode #6 is from; I like the way you blot out the background in that one to play up the general angst of the gesture and expression rather than the specifics of the scene it was in. Yak, yak, yak. Thank you for sharing the wonderful icons!

Awww...thank you! I can't bring myself to upload the Jack one from Abyss because as much as I adore the episode, it makes me profoundly sad. Such a tragic thing to happen to Jack.

*points to icon* You see shades of Toulouse-Lautrec in this one? That's really fascinating. I see shades of Dutch Still Lifes, with their really cool light play with translucence of glass and water. Weird, huh? It's a huge compliment and I really appreciate it. To even be compared to T-L is such a cool thing.

As for the episode #6 is from...I'm not 100% sure. I got the cap from here:

and I think it's from Crystal Skull, when he's in the infirmary recovering from the radiation and talking to Teal'c. I'm very happy the style works. It was a complete experiment for me. I liked how it turned out but sometimes an overly worked image is something only its creator could love. ;-)

I couldn't stop thinking about this, so just for the fun of it, I plonked up a few Toulouse-Lautrecs next to the Jack icon. I hope you don't mind!

Look at how similar the palette is in your icon and the T-L paintings. It's kind of breathtaking.

I can totally see how you'd see hints of Dutch still lifes in the icon, too. The luminosity of the reflected light along the edge of the head, the planes of the face, and in the eyes and its sharp contrast with the saturated warm blacks of the background and irises definitely has that Dutch still life look. Gorgeous stuff. Thanks so much for making it.

Have you ever considered making larger images just as fanart? I'd bet you'd come up with some fascinating work.

Now that you've put them all side by side, I see coloring similarities. I'll be damned. Makes me all the more weepy for my hard drive failure because now I'll never know how in the world I did that. Damn it.

I have been pondering making larger pieces. I don't see a lot of use for them as yet so I've mostly only played on my own. Nothing major. I like escaping the 100 x 100 confines, to be sure, but I don't think most people have much call for big graphics so I haven't really explored the options.

I'm hoping that when this year's Terylicious contest rolls around, though, that I'll be able to contribute web site layouts or something equally ambitious rather than just a series of icons. :)
