Just got back from the car show
[livejournal.com profile] mcroft, my fellow fan of all things topless, Saturn is going to make a convertible roadster in 2007!! It's a pretty, pretty car. I didn't get to sit in it but it looks faboo and seems pretty damned powerful. Claimed 0 to 60 was nothing to sneeze at, though I imagine my power-snob brother would sneer at it. Starting MSRP? ~$23K. Yeah, you read that right. Cheap! Hope it's a good car. I'd love to see Saturn have some success.

Random thoughts:

- Ford has the most god awful, ugly truck called the Super Chief. Boil on humanity's ass ugly. The pics on the page I linked to do not do this thing's ugliness justice. You really MUST see it with a "human" next to it for scale. Oversized and unwieldy are understatements. Think a few feet short of school bus-sized. Yes, it had the largest crowd for any vehicle at the show. *sigh* ETA: Yeah, yeah. It's "tri-fuel" and all - but I think the dream of driving a truck large enough to make a Hummer pause and think had more to do with the crowd.

- [livejournal.com profile] mcroft, I sat in the new convertible Mustang. Eh. Not as good as the white one was. Really. They're bringing back the Shelby (has anyone explained gas prices to Ford, lately?) and there was a cool concept car they had presented in brushed aluminum. Can't imagine how often they're buffing finger prints off that sucker.

- Bentleys really are ridiculously expensive. But their coupe isn't half bad looking.

- Still not a fan of Lamborghinis or Lotuses, but they had their usual crowd of fanboys.

- I am obviously still in the throws of my love-affair with convertibles. Nothing could distract me from them. Saab has a sedate looking one that I bet is fun to drive. Volvo's is ugly. Lexuses are way overpriced but they're going into the hybrid market. The Mini-Cooper has a cute one but their reliability issues leave me leery. The new Miata still looks great though the trunk opening/shape sucks bilge water. My favorite? A toss-up between the Aston-Martin convertible (*drool*) and a couple of those from Mercedes (wtf?!?). J is looking in the future to add to our car collection; he wants a fun car. He's eyeing both the Porsche Boxster and the Mercedes convertibles. He has to concern himself with sitting height, so his choices are more limited. Sometimes, I'm grateful to be short.

Hmmm...I bet once we check into how much it costs to insure one of those cars, J might be looking back at the cheap Saturn convertible. *grin* Hey, you could buy 3 of those for the price of 1 of the others.

You heard the lady. All. things.

And as she was my wife (under an assumed name and only on the weekends), I cannot disagree with her.

Hey! Next thing I know, you'll be telling people that we used to jog wearing nothing more than shaving cream and sneakers...or that we both wore skirts when I was your best man. erm, did we ever get divorced? I'd hate to have [livejournal.com profile] immlass out for my blood

They stopped paying us to be married, so we weren't anymore.

...Were you wearing anything under your skirt?

Might want to look at the VW Beetle convertible. Because they're parabolas, they've got great headroom.

*not touching the great headroom joke*

So...do they have whispering niches?
[identity profile] mcroft.livejournal.com on February 6th, 2006 06:28 am (UTC)
See, head doesn't require that much room, but roadhead is better if you're "not way over in a bucket seat."

Now, the Kar-ma Sutra, some of those only work with the top down. Or at least extra headroom.

Something tells me I should wait until I'm home tonight to check these out. I'm particularly clever that way.

If you're going to talk about Fords...

(Sorry; I had to.) ;)

And I would really like to warn J that if he goes looking for a fun car he should be prepared to become the butt of penis jokes...but well... see? I just can't go there (outside of fic). ;)

Don't apologize! This LJ could definitely use more Fords. Mmmmmm.

I've thought about bringing up the whole, "Gee, hun, getting a Boxster screams early onset mid-life crisis and implies compensating for other areas..." but I don't want to ruin his fun. It really wouldn't be very sporting of me, would it? Seeing as I have my own toy and all.
