Right to Privacy
Why isn't there a movement to pass an amendment to the Constitution guaranteeing the right to privacy? Are there any legitimate concerns raised by making it explicit? Every up has a down (e.g., free speech means I must tolerate hate speech I find offensive) so I'm curious what the downside of such an amendment would be.

I was home sick today and I had the Alito confirmation hearing on the tube. Drifting in and out of sleep while listening to senators pontificate led to weird thoughts and it occurred to me that we spend a lot of time and energy trying to pin down a nominee on an issue that we should just make a declared right.

I hope you're feeling better today.

You hit the nail on the head with the Alito hearing issues.

Thanks. :) I'm feeling better today for certain.

As for the Alito thing, I despair for personal freedoms though this isn't anything new. I've felt that way since 2004, when Bush won the presidential vote for the first time.
