Making Vacation Plans for the Year

  • Alaska. Maybe July/August but I'd really prefer to go after school is back in session in early September. That's what we did last time and it was like having the whole state to ourselves. I'm already dreaming of the Cream of Wild Mushroom Soup with Black Truffle Oil that we had last time at the Crow's Nest at the Captain Cook Hotel. Seriously - the best meal I ever ate in my life. Hope they still have the same chef. I desperately want to tack on a stop over, even if it's a couple of days, in Vancouver because I just hate to go 2 years without seeing British Columbia.

  • New Jersey, Western. Mid-September for a friend's wedding. Thankfully, the man has the excellent sense to live in charming western NJ.

  • New Jersey, Eastern. November. Supreme irony of my life that I'll be venturing into New Jersey twice in one year. I may not make it to B.C. but I'll be in NJ twice?!? Obviously the only reason I'm venturing into eastern NJ now that [livejournal.com profile] immlass and [livejournal.com profile] mcroft have moved is because pretty, pretty men will be at the Stargate Convention. I already have tickets and they're front row center. So...no way I'm missing that one. I may not be sticking around for the week afterwards, though, as I have in the past -- which really stinks because a 2 day visit to the Met has become a yearly pleasure and I was hoping to make it to the Brooklyn Museum's Egyptian Collection.

Ew. *thanks nose*

Well, you know it takes a certain kind of people to go to these things, myself included. But I go because I want to hear the panels, I like the show, and I want to talk to people who like the show. I want to have lots of geeky fun, stuff I can't do as my normal alter ego.

And the Jack and Sam fans don't bother me and I simply loathe that character pairing. It's actually some of the fans for a particular character that I love that scare me.

I am excited to meet Cliff. I've realized that all the people that I've ever not really had an interest in ended up being very cool, so now I just excited to meet everyone. They all have their own surprises.

I want Teryl. I missed in at the last NJ con I went to (was in line to have photo taken with MS) and she didn't go to Boston.

Wow sounds like you had fun with Peter Williams! Guh! He was so sweet and doesn't look as old as the math says he should be. Wow. That sounds fantastic.

In Boston, I rode the elevator with Tony Amendola. Sweetest man ever. We chatted about New England (he's visits the Cape a lot) and then later at the dessert party we had a nice chat about archaeology and anthropology. Fun!

Unfortunately, I tend to turn to goo around MS. *sigh* For once, I'd like to act like a normal person.

Whatever could you mean? ;-) I wasn't so fond of the bizarre and vocal Jack/Sam fans at Gatecon but I imagine some of the unmentioned character's fans were equally obnoxious. Mostly, I made those comments to needle [livejournal.com profile] majorsamfan and [livejournal.com profile] triciabyrne1978, my S/J buds. :)

Absolutely. It may be the big three who sell the tickets - and yes, it's fun to see them - but I've found every single person from the Stargate cast/crew whom I've "met" to be very nice people and each has added to the con experience.

Teryl, Don, and Peter have always impressed me by generously giving of themselves and making a concerted effort to connect with the con-goers. I'm sure whatever happens I'll have fun. Even if every guest turned out to be a dud, the friends I've made would be fun to hang with and drown our sorrows.

MS always turns my brain to mush, too. I have to have other people around to talk for me. I'm such a dweeb.

But what about...tickling!

Depends on who's doing it. Now if you can get RDA on board...

There are few who would object, I should think.
