Good news for my computer
After panicking Saturday night over the whole, "omg, I've killed my computer" thing, I discovered that I was fast enough, thanks to Zone Alarm's version of a panic button, to keep it from infecting my computer. Don't know if it was just that that saved me or a combo of patches, anti-virus protection, the firewall, and my quick shut down. I've managed to get through it without a reformat.

All scans now come back totally clean. I've run it through both NAV and the online free version of Kaspersky. That should be the end of that problem.

Replaced to fix typo
I don't know enough about how Macs and Windoze differ, so would this make a difference? Would the Mac OS necessarily change to accommodate the new chip sufficiently that it would now be open to Windoze virii, whether of the wild variety or the Sony-esque?

Re: Replaced to fix typo
Well, the advantage is supposed to be faster-cheaper, but otherwise the same.

The Virii are specific to the OS, but if you modify your Mac-Intel machine until it runs all the Windows stuff, then it will run the virii as well.

However, it's been very virus-free (Viruses for Macs died about System 7, so 1991 or so).
