Voted in the run-off today for two city council positions. As usual, I expect my favored candidates to lose but the two choices left to me for District C fail to excite me...and people whom I respect seem to think that the person I didn't vote for in the at-large position isn't entirely evil so it won't be a bitter disappointment the way the last election losses were.

Our poll workers are such wonderful people. Every election they bring in a large coffee urn, supplies, and homemade desserts. Going to vote feels like visiting friends. Even if my candidates never do win.

ETA: Huh. Whaddya know? Both the candidates I voted for? They won. *stunned* The Dist C winner, who has experience of working in flood control issues, doesn't excite me but the guy who prominently touted his experience working in the current Bush admin lost. Woo hoo!

While a lot of people I respect supported the gentleman running for the at-large position, Annise Parker backed Sue Lovell. I couldn't find anything I objected to about her (but isn't that the case with these races? it's damned hard to find anything about these people's positions/philosophies) and so I let that be my deciding factor. I'm afraid that "gay-friendly" has become an indicator for me, like "pro-choice" is, as a shorthand for other views about personal freedoms.
