Iconfest!

Come on over and play!

[livejournal.com profile] lemonpunch is hosting an iconfest that runs through 26th May. This is your chance to request an icon or several. You can be very specific (linking to caps, requesting specific verbiage) or you can be more general.

If you're very lucky, [livejournal.com profile] lemonpunch might fulfill your request. If you're unfamiliar with her work, you're in for a treat. She creates small masterpieces; what she does with color, lighting, & textures is magical. Also? She is the only other iconist I know who has made a boatload of Calvin & Hobbes icons so she HAS to be amazing.

If you're hoping that I will try my hand at your request, please link me to your request so I'm certain to see it. I'm trying to keep up but the post is already a little unwieldy; I can only imagine what'll look like in a week and a half.

Iconfest links: [rules/about] [promotions] [f.a.q.s] [the PROMPT page]

ETA: And, of course, MAKERS are invited, too! This is your chance to read through the prompts, find something familiar to tackle or try something completely outside of your comfort zone that you've never tried before.

Aren't they awesome? And [livejournal.com profile] lemonpunch is a genius, isn't she?

I've started trying with the Emergency caps. So far, I just have one but some feedback on font choice/style would be good. I don't know that I have the right logo:

The quality kind fo stinks but that's from one of the better quality scans of a promo pic.

Ooh, ensemble shot. :)

I don't know if they had a logo per se. The Emergency! was usually in bold white, which wouldn't do for most iconning, I'd think.

Anyway, it doesn't matter. I have a handful of professionally done icons (your text included) and I've jury-rigged some of my own (b/w one up thread). I should be satisfied. It's not worth anyone jumping through hoops. ;)

Professionally? Has someone paid me and I missed it? ;-) Thanks for the vote of confidence but I'm an intermediate dabbler.

So, you don't want to see these:

or any others I might make? I know the quality's crap -- and I'm gaining a new respect for whomever made the icons you've been using because those caps redefine grainy -- but it's a different sort of challenge.

Oooh, no I always want to see. I just don't want you to do icon gymnastics with caps that were clearly done by someone like me: willing but unqualified. I like your attempts and admire what you could do with them, knowing how grainy/blurry those images were. Yoinking.

I suspect [livejournal.com profile] seldomspeaking did his/her own caps. Oooh, maybe I should stop pestering you and yoink some more of these. They all seem to be from the pilot movie. ;)

Jeez, I need to get off the Emergency! kick. ;)

Oh yeah, [livejournal.com profile] seldomspeaking had far superior caps. The coloring and detail is a million times better in hers. I HIGHLY recommend yoinking those instead.

If you're anything like I am, wanting a particular icon set and not being able to find it because nobody's really made it only makes you want it more. Once I get what I want, the drive is gone and then I can find the next impossible thing that I want. ;-)

Yes, that is me totally. It's like I cannot stop looking, as if that will make them magically appear for me, wrapped in ribbons and bows. ;)

I've managed to curb that desire for a lot of things (S&S, finding a goddamn icon of Marshall Mann in that green scarf from 3x01, etc). Must cut out the E!. I know, that makes me sound like an E! addict, which could be SO misinterpreted!

I still look for my college ring that disappeared from the hotel room I was in during Hurricane Ike in the purse and luggage I had at the time, even though I've checked it a hundred times in the last 1.5 years.

Iif you told any of your icon making buddies that you wanted an icon of Marchall Mann in that green scarf from 3x01, you might have more luck in procuring one.

The icon-fu is failing me this morning but I managed to find a cap:

Hope this works until a better one wanders into your path.

*delighted clapping*

(And to be fair - until a very short time ago, I had no idea anyone even tangentially connected to my flist watched IPS. Didn't know there was anyone to ask. Forgot you will sometimes icon that which you do not watch.)

I watch IPS though I haven't been fannish about it. It's a rare show, actually, that makes me want to get on the internet and talk to other people about it. Normally, I'm happy to be a passive receiver of television.

I've made my good friend [livejournal.com profile] jalabert many personal icons (long before I ever started posting them, she gave my squares of squee an outlet, despite how crappy many were) and I'm still waiting for her to send me some photos from...High School Musical?...so that I can make her some more icons. But it is true that I haven't ever opened up a general request line. You should consider yourself as having one, however.

I'm not fannish, fannish. Beyond a random blurb here and there, I don't actually talk about IPS. Now, Marshall, on the other hand. Yeah. Given a chance, I'd probably wax poetic way too much. ;)

Well, if you didn't already know: I adore and admire your work.
