Entry tags:

Diet, Exercise, etc.

I'm going to start using my LJ in a new-to-me way: as an exercise & diet diary. I plan on recording my thoughts, struggles, victories, defeats, books I've read, etc. about food & eating, exercising, and my battle to get fit. And then STAY fit.

This has nothing to do with the usual content of my LJ and I suspect it will contain little interesting content so my current plan is to take it all private. However, others on my f-list may be cutting a similar path and find that having a place to talk about it might be useful.

If you suspect you might want to read, think about, or discuss these sorts of issues, please comment here. If there's interest, rather than making my entries private I'll f-lock them and make a special filter for those who want to wade through it all.

This is going to be mostly navel-gazing, so consider yourself fairly warned.

I'm in. Hopefully it will inspire me to add more exercise to my efforts.

I'm interested, as it might give me inspiration to take care of my own self and ideas on how to do so that I hadn't previously thought of. And, y'know, if I can be supportive, I'd like to be that, too. :)

Sure, count me in. Thus far, I've tried to battle the attack of Cheddar Jack Cheez Its and failed. Seriously, yo, this is me at night: "Do not eat the Cheez Its, save them for your Sat. splurge day. Do. Not. Eat. Cheez. Its." followed almost immediately by munchmunchmunch.

Damnit.

Ummm...yeah. I don't diet or exercise or have any interest in doing so (even though I logically know all of the health and psychological benefits), but I'm interested to see people's thoughts and experiences on it.

From my own experience, I have always avoided going out for the sole purpose of exercising. It was never fun for me. Then I got a job as a dog-walker and I was doing a large amount of walking and jogging very regularly. I hated it for quite a long time, and still am not enamored of the idea, but I got used to it and at times I still find a random urge to go out and run for long periods. I now find it a good way to organize my thoughts and escape my reality for a while, but if those reasons are absent, I feel no pull to do it.

I found: a) walking with a dog (or another person) makes it much more enjoyable, just to have the companionship and feel like you're not doing it alone. I think the "being alone for long periods" factor has always been one of my major excuses for avoiding exercise. And b) Podcasts. Find some good, long, enjoyable podcasts to listen to.
Wait Wait Don't Tell Me
was my favorite, and at a perfect length (~45 minutes), though I also enjoyed
The News From Lake Wobegon
and
Mugglecast
.

Hi
Please include me. I need some inspiration to get back started again. I started a gym membership in October but haven't keep with it like I like.

I have yo-yo'd my entire life. On exercise plans, off them. On "new eating choices." Off them. Losing pounds. Gaining them back, plus interest.

All this to say that I would find it inspirational.

Me too, please!

Sometimes I'm good enough to inspire someone else; sometimes I really need inspiration from my friends.

Done! :) I've been too long without regularly exercising "for real" so I'm starting at the bottom of the fitness heap. I'll take all the inspiration I can get. Or, you know, commiseration.

I'd like to read these entries, or, if you make a filter, I'd like to be on it.
