Diet, Exercise, etc.

I'm going to start using my LJ in a new-to-me way: as an exercise & diet diary. I plan on recording my thoughts, struggles, victories, defeats, books I've read, etc. about food & eating, exercising, and my battle to get fit. And then STAY fit.

This has nothing to do with the usual content of my LJ and I suspect it will contain little interesting content so my current plan is to take it all private. However, others on my f-list may be cutting a similar path and find that having a place to talk about it might be useful.

If you suspect you might want to read, think about, or discuss these sorts of issues, please comment here. If there's interest, rather than making my entries private I'll f-lock them and make a special filter for those who want to wade through it all.

This is going to be mostly navel-gazing, so consider yourself fairly warned.

I'm in. Hopefully it will inspire me to add more exercise to my efforts.

I'm interested, as it might give me inspiration to take care of my own self and ideas on how to do so that I hadn't previously thought of. And, y'know, if I can be supportive, I'd like to be that, too. :)

what she said.

(Don't notice the chocolate cake sitting next to me. No, that's not there...)

Screw the cake -- want the mole!!!

I've created the filter and added you. :) Exercise is the modern day tonic, good for heart problems, blood sugar issues, cholesterol levels, mood disorders, and so on but without side effects like liver damage, inadvertent sleeping/driving in the middle of the night, or increasing risks of breast cancer.

Now, if only I could figure out to make it something I *want* to do! ;-)

Um, I got tired after filling three pans of enchiladas, so there's still some of the filling in my freezer...

I've added you to the filter! :)

Chocolate cake is eeeevil. OK, it isn't, but my reaction to chocolate cake is evil counterproductive. It is my all-time biggest love and moderation is nigh on impossible for me.

Mole is how I get my chocolate these days! I may have to learn to make it because I love it so much.

I've added you to the filter. :)

I hope it helps you. I have tried and failed so many times. This time, I'm trying to be more open-minded. That is, I'm willing to look at some things that I scoffed at before but I want a diary instead of personal perception to help me evaluate whether or not something worked. Also, since I have a small group of intelligent women interested, I'm now thinking it'll also be a good group for vetting reality and perception.

Support is always welcomed -- and I hope that I can return the favor!

Done! We'll be exercise buddies, distance be damned. :)

But I don't like tonic! OR gin!!

;)

Neither do I -- which makes that metaphor particularly appropriate for me since I have yet to like exercise, either. ;)

Sure, count me in. Thus far, I've tried to battle the attack of Cheddar Jack Cheez Its and failed. Seriously, yo, this is me at night: "Do not eat the Cheez Its, save them for your Sat. splurge day. Do. Not. Eat. Cheez. Its." followed almost immediately by munchmunchmunch.

Damnit.

Ummm...yeah. I don't diet or exercise or have any interest in doing so (even though I logically know all of the health and psychological benefits), but I'm interested to see people's thoughts and experiences on it.

From my own experience, I have always avoided going out for the sole purpose of exercising. It was never fun for me. Then I got a job as a dog-walker and I was doing a large amount of walking and jogging very regularly. I hated it for quite a long time, and still am not enamored of the idea, but I got used to it and at times I still find a random urge to go out and run for long periods. I now find it a good way to organize my thoughts and escape my reality for a while, but if those reasons are absent, I feel no pull to do it.

I found: a) walking with a dog (or another person) makes it much more enjoyable, just to have the companionship and feel like you're not doing it alone. I think the "being alone for long periods" factor has always been one of my major excuses for avoiding exercise. And b) Podcasts. Find some good, long, enjoyable podcasts to listen to.
Wait Wait Don't Tell Me
was my favorite, and at a perfect length (~45 minutes), though I also enjoyed
The News From Lake Wobegon
and
Mugglecast
.

Hi
Please include me. I need some inspiration to get back started again. I started a gym membership in October but haven't keep with it like I like.

Ha! Losing 2 pounds isn't a major goal, you know. ;)

How much does an Olsen weigh for real? I could stand to lose a goodly portion of one, I'd bet.
