Where'd you find Witchblade caps? I'm taking 47 through 53. And 22 and 55 and 56 are awesome. I really like the positioning and texture you use.
no subject
I was *stunned* to find the Witchblade caps. They're at Screencaps by Mike. I can't for the life of me figure out how he made such clear caps seeing as they still haven't released any DVDs. *grumbles* He capped every episode; some are available as downloadable *.zips and the others are available in galleries. The caps heavily favor Sarah so it's a search to find caps of the others but it's so worth it because the caps are gorgeous.

Whoo, I'm a guru! ;-D I totally know what you mean. I just posted a batch with ten more icons from the making-of DVD. Her part is just, like, four minutes long and I keep finding new stuff to make icons from. It's really amazing. ;-D
Thanks for sharing the icons! Hope to see more in the future! ;-D

And you don't even have to meditate a lot and pontificate while stoned. What a deal. :)

Well, no, I don't have to... ;-D
I need to order me the better half a copy of the calendar & video. I meant to do it for his birthday but I actually bought him a gift he didn't have to share.
*laughs* The video is muuuch better than the calendar, IMO. They apparently did a lot of photos that they didn't use. Erica Durance and Laura Bertram are both so, so gorgeous. Rachel Luttrell, though... blergh. I mean, she's fine on Atlantis, but it's like they were TRYING to make her unattractive for the calendar. :-/
*wants Torri and Amanda in 2008* ;-D
no subject
I have to admit, Torri seems too thin to me. She's looking healthier these days than when SGA first started. Amanda? Oh yeah. They should have found a way to include her if it was at all possible. Dolts.
no subject
And yes, Torri is MUCH lovelier now than when the show began. Her cheekbones frightened me in the original promo pics. "The bad guys suck life from humans... so did they already get ahold of Zombie!Weir?" ;-D
As for Amanda, I'm not entirely positive, but the photo shoot MAY have coincided with her pregnancy. So she may have been self-conscious about it (I don't think I've seen a single picture of her pregnant, so... makes sense).
no subject
Whatever the reason, I'm sorry Amanda wasn't in the calendar. I think Demi Moore proved that pregnant women are beautiful and ripe. I wish Amanda had been photographed because she strikes me as looking good at all stages of life.

*sigh*..okay...I don't know why you are worried about your icon making abilities..you do awesome work!...your composition is wonderful...just in the simple fact that you tend to make the eyes your central focus for a good many of your icons..that alone draws you into the picture...that and you do a good job of making the eye travel in your others..(thats what I do..try to find ways to make you look at the whole thing..well most of the time)...and once again I love the clarity of your icons....I still haven't quite figured out how to do that yet..you have crispness but also a softness to them..guh..I want to get that..I could go through and pic out my favs but it would be the majority of them..so..I'm just saying great work and I'm so snagging #s 15,22,26 and 28!..Later H!

I don't know why you are worried about your icon making abilities
Oh, I don't think I'm horrible. Thankfully, they are lots of icons out there that I totally hate and it makes me feel like I'm in the middle of the pack than just the speshul class. ;-) Seriously, I am in a rut. They're all fairly tightly cropped busts. Or, I was in a rut. I've been given some excellent pointers and I've started working on them. I made most of these before the discussions, though, so I admit a few make me cringe.
I DO make the eyes the central focus; you're exactly right. That's what most intrigues me and if an icon doesn't turn out with good "eye-age" then I delete it. That has, in turn, limited me in my composition and led to my issues with oversharpening.
(thats what I do..try to find ways to make you look at the whole thing..well most of the time)
Hmm...I think that's something I noticed in terms of "wow, look at the cool stuff I can see going on in the background; wish mine were like that!" Ha!
and once again I love the clarity of your icons....I still haven't quite figured out how to do that yet..you have crispness but also a softness to them..guh..I want to get that
I don't think this is as difficult as you think. First off, I've always LIKED your clarity. I also like your use of the only slightly out of focus background to add depth.
I think you've got as much clarity as you're typically going to get because you icon scenes whereas I'm getting in closer. That allows for more detail. Seriously, look at the scene in #18. The lack of detail makes me want to tear my hair out but I just love that scene and it's an angle I haven't seen before, so...
How do I get the clarity I do? Absolutely it starts with your cap. Looking above, #7 was the highest quality cap and the resulting icon has a lot of rich detail. #10 and #11, though, were caps made from the show feed rather than DVDs and they lack a lot of the detail.
I don't think I do anything different from standard base prep. I use the blunt force of "sharpen" and then spend a lot of time smoothing and erasing the signs of oversharpening. If I knew more about Photoshop, I could probably save myself a lot of time by using unsharpen. I have never grokked that tool. I play with sliders until the image looks okay but I am a control freak and I'd rather control it precisely using my jerry-rigged scheme. If you ever want me to explain how I got a particular image sharpened or whatever, please feel free to ask.
Thanks for the feedback. I hadn't ever thought of making the eye travel around the icon. Maybe that'll help me break out of the head & shoulders rut! *smooches*

Clarity...ah yes..that's why I've started using my caps more often..it's easier to get what I want from them...and I do tend to go for "the whole picture" more often then close-ups..but I'm working on a batch where I have to get close on some of them and hope they turn out okay(since I've had to use found caps for some of them)
heh..you used grokked in a sentence..*giggle*...unsharp mask is my friend...lol..I hate the sharpen tool..dunno why..*shrugs*
glad my feedback was helpful...been awhile since I went so in depth about somebodies work..but you asked and I gave..now I'm off to run errands...bleh...later H!

I'm so damned lazy on caps. I have the DVDs, I have the Power DVD...in theory I should be able to do this. I even tried once. I thought I'd go bananas getting it stopped on a clear image for me to cap. Gods, I don't know how cappers do it but I have not got the patience.
Grokked is one of my all-time favorite words. It's one that needs to exist in the English language, damnit. I'm not especially partial to Heinlein because his female characters are like fingernails on chalkboard to me but I forgive him based solely on the word grok. :)
Oh, I don't use the sharpen tool. I use the filter. I screw up the entire picture all at once.
I did ask and I'm very happy to receive any and all feedback. It's especially helpful to get it from people who play with Photoshop, though one doesn't have to know digital editing to know whether something looks good or not. ;-)
no subject
I don't use Photoshop...I have GIMP...I can do just about all the stuff you can do with Photoshop except for the filters being somewhat different..heh..I'm to lazy to go buy Photoshop..GIMP was free!..yay!

I'll be back for a Sara icon at some point!

I don't know if you order through Amazon, but they have a service set up to sign up to receive a notice if/when Witchblade is released on DVD. I've been signed up since about 2002...sadly, no e-mail yet.
You're welcome back any time. Now that I know there's interest in Witchblade icons beyond amusing myself, I'll almost certainly be making more to share the love.

#8 is pretty! I love the cropping and the coloring is gorgeous. :x:x:x
#21 OMG beautiful!! I adore the coloring and the whole icon is just stunning. :x:x:x
#22 You already know I love it. ;-)
#41 I looove the cropping! The coloring is awesome and I really like he cap. Also, I love the "torn paper" thingy you used on the text one. :-)
#42 You already know I love it. .-)
#49 Great cropping! And the coloring is v.v.v.v pretty.
*runs away* :-)

You've picked mostly icons made after our pow-wow so I'm very, very excited. I feel like it means I'm progressing.
#8 -- Again with the whole head cropping and now with the, "hopefully not over-sharpened." I admit, I would prefer it sharper but in this case I think I can get away with the softness. This was a last-minute substitute because the icon I was going to post of this character was so oversharpened I ended up deleting it altogether. :|
#21 -- :) :) :)
#22 -- *smooches*
#41 -- Should I bother saying, "another crop following suggestions," or can we take that as obvious? Guess I should have left the text off of #40, eh? I dithered and dithered. In my time as an archaeologist, I was most fascinated by pre-literate cultures and I'm thinking now that those folks were on to something... ;-)
#43 -- Now without text because I never did find a Witchblade font. I know it's for the best.
#49 -- :) The oversharpening makes my fingers itch to fix it. I feel like I've been caught in public with curlers in my hair. I figured nobody would remember Witchblade so I did the, "letting go" with the assumption nobody would care enough to look closely. Now I find there *are* other Witchblade fans. Doh!
No, don't run away! I'm still very grateful for all of your help. I'd reached a dead-end and you helped me see a way out. I'm still playing around, still trying to put some of your insight into practice. *squishes*

I don't like the coloring in 19&20, because I think it makes them look all to bright, and even kinda doll like. The same with 35, she kinda looks like a doll.
And I just have to mention that I love 10 and 27!

You like the Vala? Yay! For some reason, I find it nearly impossible to icon Vala and Mitchell. I know for Mitchell it's partially due to Ben's small eyes. I want to be able to see the eyes and they tend to be the focus of my icons. EVery cap I have of him, though, he seems bland faced and I'm hardpressed to even see his eyes. :( Vala is that exact opposite. She's wildly expressive and big, gorgeous eyes...and yet I can't seem to get her. Which is ok. There are a ton of great Vala icons out there. The world doesn't really need more. But that doesn't mean I don't want to make them.
no subject
I love the Vala! Mostly because you really get out her big, gorgeous eyes. But Vala is a though character to icon, I agree on that. I rarely find any Vala icons I like actually, besides the one you made and the one I'm using now.
no subject
I like these much better than what I originally came up with. I was surprised to find the b/w is my fave because now I can see the detail I was losing to the extreme contast in the original. Any how, thanks for mentioning it because that prompted me to revisit it.
btw, that Max icon is not yielding as well as this one did. The way PS reinterprets the image when it's shrunk is part of my problem. A re-work of that has me moving her eyeliner around and trying mess with her eyes. :| I'm not really interested in photo manip and so I'm going to let that one remain a "failed" icon.
no subject
As I said, it's probably the cap. It probably just becomes more obvious when you shrink it.
these are amazing!

All of these are quite fabulous, but I'm definitely taking (with the usual credit) #15, #16, #20 (great choice of text), #25, #26, #28,(heh) #29 (heh) and #34. Maybe others later. *curses lack of userpic space in LJ*
no subject
You're more than welcome to as many as you want, of course. If you want me to remove the text from any of them, feel free to let me know. It's very easily done. Give me a couple of days, please, with #20. I wasn't happy with it when I posted it and I think the group shot deserves better. I'll let you see it when I redo it and if you still prefer this version, please feel free to snag it. Actually, you're welcome to snag now. I'm just hoping to bring a far better icon to the table.
As for the ridiculously low limit on icon numbers, I am SO with you. If there's one thing I would change about LJ to improve it and make it happier for me, it would be adopt the Greatest Journal deal of 2,000 userpics. (Hell, GJ doesn't even charge you for the 2K pics.)
As always, thank you for the feedback. *hugs*
no subject
Anyhow, I'll be happy to take a look at your revised version of #20, but I do think it's great as is.
no subject
You're of course welcome to use which ever version you want. I just wanted to give you a heads up that I intend to rework and reissue it; hopefully, in better condition.
*hugs*

I surprised myself. I like the b/w the best since it resolves some of the problems with the pic. I can now see the detail in all three of them. :) I know that you like the "Braintrust" text. If you want any of the other three AND want it to say "Braintrust" just let me know and I'll put that on.
