So far, I'm intending to do the dual thing. I figure that even if fandom does eventually migrate here -- something I'm fairly doubtful will happen -- it will take place over a period of years. I'm planning to be wherever fandom is. I support the concept of Dreamwidth and I'm hoping to have the luck to time a purchase of a seed account but I'm not planning to leave behind my LJ account.
It's $200. I've been trying to find an outline of what the benefits are but haven't yet figured out where that info is hidden. Regardless, I'm hoping to be online and quick enough to get one. If not, then I'll buy a paid account.
I've planned from Day 1 to support the site (I'm partial to synecdochic's sexy brain) and 9 months ago I'd have handed over the $200 without second thought. Now? I'm pretty antsy about spending the money.
On a seemingly unrelated note, you live in an apartment near here. I've just discovered tonight that I will be needing to move kind of soon. Do you have suggestions for apartments in the area?
Ouch. Depends on how much you want to spend. If you've got the bucks, the complex at the northwest corner of Kirby and North Braeswood is *very* nice. Some friends lived there for a time after their house was flooded out.
There's a place on the northeast corner, too, but I've never been inside there.
There are some cheaper ones on Murworth between S.Main and Buffalo Speedway that seem niceish. Much cheaper.
Oh! Don't forget the condos over closer to Reliant. Some of those are rentals.
Nothing terrible going on, I hope.
I wouldn't move into my complex at the moment - the current management team sucks. ;-)
Bad enough, sadly. I won't have the bucks. I believe I'll be cutting back in *everything* pretty severely and having to support both myself and my unemployed brother on my salary. Thanks for the info. I'll be checking into those places.
Oh, hey, are you still going to use LJ's Scrapbook for icons? I'm all waffly about what to do about that now. I don't plan on leaving LJ, but Scrapbook's one of the big things that ties me to it either way. If there's no exporter applet for just dumping all those images into another hosting account, I can't face reproducing the galleries somewhere else. The folders on my hard drive are an embarrassing mishmash.
Sorry, that was more than a drive-by wave, as it turned out. While I'm blathering, I'll also say that I've been thinking about you a lot, and wanting to email but not wanting to bug you with email. ::hugs you::
Yes, I still plan to use LJ's Scrapbook. For some reason, LJ makes it possible to hotlink. I figure I use a tiny portion of the space I paid for and LJ allows me to use it like a Photobucket account so I do.
<--- hotlinking my own icon
Thanks for the kind thoughts. The last couple of weeks have really sucked but life goes on, you know? Something about LIMS plays havoc with my life. The finals of the first round coincided with my two weeks of non-electricity following Hurricane Ike; this round's finals coincided with the death of a 16-year relationship. I don't look upon the start the third round with unabashed joy, I gotta admit, irrational though I know it is. :)
Pasting LJ posts into Insanejournal (your icon comm there!) always worked, so I figured the same would work here, at least as long as LJ keeps allowing it, so I guess I'll keep doing the same thing too. I'm in the same situation regarding the use of only a fraction of my space there and so on. And clunky as the Scrapbook interface can be, I'm awfully accustomed to it now. Thanks for the input -- you've saved me from a lot of unnecessary re-uploading.
::savors your oh-so-cool Teal'c::
I'd forgotten about the timing of Ike last round! Jeez louise. I hate for you to have that negative association with something so wonderful that you created. You are such a fabulous mod and it's such a great comm. I will be fervently hoping for next round to break the streak.
Aw, Mish. I'm sending you so many good thoughts, for peace and strength and the return of happiness.
Yeah, well, some day LJ is going to catch on and prohibit hotlinking (although I suppose it could be viewed as not hotlinking since I paid for the space/bandwidth) so it would be prudent to check out gallery downloading tools.
I know exactly what you mean about the clunky interface but having invested time in learning to navigate it AND the time required to upload. The thought of downloading each icon individually strikes fear into my heart. I don't have a file system at all! I use file names to help me organize but even that will be cumbersome to upload to another system. There really isn't a good, foolproof method, is there?
Thanks for the good thoughts. :) I've had a lot of private e-mails and messages. There are a number of really nice people out there and I have a best-friends-since-we-were-8 friend who lives about a mile away so I have very strong support in my non-digital life, too.
If I must be superstitious, and I prefer not to be, I choose to believe that the third time's the charm for LIMS. ;) I don't actually associate my hurdles of late with the LIMS. Rather, I find that the difficulties suck the fun out of the finale for me. That stinks because I enjoy the comm and I want to celebrate the winners and everyone who takes part. Luckily, I am not the only mod and others pick up the slack.
{{{hugs}}} I'm so happy to see you here. :-) I'm going to maintain "homes" on both LJ and here. I didn't migrate my journal, because I don't really have anything on LJ that I care about saving forever or duplicating over here. :-)

*noticed what you didn't say*
Check the place on Murworth and the condos. There's a bus line on S.Main, too.
