Just checked the con schedule, in hopes of figuring out how to squeeze in my non-fandom friends and noticed that:

- Michael Shanks has been removed from the guest list. Bummer. I do like to take pictures of the man. He's very pretty.

- TERYL ROTHERY HAS BEEN ADDED! I know, I know. It's impolite to shout but oh my god, I was just whining about how it seemed wrong to have a con without her and there she is!!! Oh joy! katiedammit, is there anything now you want me to get signed?

Yanno, it's criminal that I have front row, center seat but I don't have your photographic ability. (Or, I'd better have that seat. The ticket hasn't yet arrived in the mail :| )

I'd offer you a ride in the 2nd checked bag they let me take, but you'd have to lop off an arm and a leg to make the 50 pound weight limit. And once you've got 'em cut off, might as well hand them to the airlines for a seat anyway. The air is slightly oxygen-richer in the cabin. Or so I've been told.

I know you've got the primo stuff, too. Yeesh -- I need to think this over. I HAVE to get her to sign a pic from Dallas where she had her face buried in Joe's belly. That'll be an excellent surprise for him. But I don't want that to be the only thing I get signed. Geez - I was so happy that I wasn't going to be spending money on extra signatures or probably even photos this time around. THAT is out the window now that Teryl is there.

Any photos I shoot that y'all want, you're more than welcome to them. I take a lot of photos but I'm a relative n00b to the photography world. I "solve" this problem by taking many, many, many photos and varying my settings. I get a lot of trash pics and if I'm lucky a couple turn out okay.

If I capture anything y'all want, I'm very happy for you to have it. You're asking for Terylicious, selmak is asking for Sel's site...I REALLY wish I took photography worthy of this hope. :|

I'm thinking of shooting some in the RAW format this time and seeing if processing it post-event helps.

AUUGGHHH! Reading my f-list is not making me happy today. First Katie, now you! I need an "I'm jealous of you." icon. Ok, ok, I'm happy for you, but sad for me. *whines* Teryl has not yet appeared on the Vancouver guest list. I have at ticket and am currently trying to figure out how I'm going to pay for the rest of the trip. And if Teryl and Amanda don't end up on the guest list, I will not be a happy camper.

I've asked katiedammit if she might be kind enough to get something signed for me as a backup. I expect full reports and pictures from both of you! :)

Awwww. *hugs* YOu get to be even more jealous of me: I'm front row, center. However, I'm MONDO jealous of getting to go to Vancouver. That is where I want to live so badly it makes my teeth ache. I betcha if Teryl is in town, she'll be on the guest list. She's an absolute gold mine to organizers. She might not have the draw that the regulars do, but she makes certain that fans leave happy.

Believe me, I take pics. Way too many pics. :)

I don't know how much time you have there or how much of a fan girl you wish to be, but I can dig out my notes about finding various places that Stargate shot if you'd like. For certain? Go to Simon Fraiser University: it's Tollana. And Horizons, a.k.a O'Malley's, is where they shot Upgrades. The food is EXCELLENT and the park around it pretty. Oh yeah, it's also where they shot the scene in Upgrades where they burst out of the Gate to take out Apophis's new mothership. :)

I totally and completely adore Vancouver. *sniffle* I'm jealous of THAT trip. :)

I did attend the Stargate convention when it was in Columbus, OH in August 2005. It was my first convention and it was something of a disappointment. From what I heard, they apparently did not get a great turnout (although I thought there were a lot of people there). It was totally disorganized and the one guy in charge knew nothing about Stargate (even admitted it) and was extremely rude. From my observations, other conventions, like Gatecon, appear to let you get a bit closer to the actors. Some of the pictures I see posted on the Internet sure seem to make it appear that way. The guy who ran the Creation con in Columbs was like a freakin' drill sargeant and rude, did I mention rude? Anyway, the highlight was seeing Teryl and worth the trip just for that. It was like a breath of fresh air and sunshine when she swept onto the stage. I was in the front row, which was pretty cool. Unfortunately, I got crap for pictures because I was all hopped up on Advair and it made my hands shake. And, the one picture I paid for to have a pic of me and Teryl came out terrible. I knew I would look bad - my face was all swollen from the steroids, but how in the hell can anyone make Teryl look bad? *shakes head*

Anyway, I'm giving them another chance, I hope anyway. I'm running out of time for raising the rest of the funds. I figure they will devote more energy and resources to the "home" event so to speak. I just pray Amanda and Teryl get added to the list.

Thanks for sharing your pictures. Triple-threat Teryl is a modern day Debbie Reynolds or Doris Day. She sets the gold standard in convention appearances, giving her all to both her performance and her fans. I love that - makes sense why I love Teryl - I absolutely adore old Doris Day and Debbie Reynolds movies. I still very much enjoy Debbie Reynolds when I see her today. I saw her live once and she was fabulous.

Also, thanks for sharing about the Stargate shooting locations. I actually bought something on eBay with that information. I can't afford the Monday tour, but could probably rent a car for a day and venture out on my own. I absolutely agree that Vancouver is gorgeous. I was there when I was young. I lived in Calgary, Alberta for about 6.5 years. Sad to say, though, that we moved back to the States.

I don't think I'd wish a Creation Con on anyone as their first convention. Don't get me wrong -- there ARE things about it that I appreciate. I love the assigned seating so that I'm not spending all my prime sleeping hours sitting in a hall, hoping to get a good enough seat to see the stage. I like that if I've paid for an autograph or picture that I'm going to get that item (assuming the actor doesn't cancel, of course). Hell, when Amanda Tapping cancelled at the last minute in 2004 due to a family emergency, I still got an autographed photo in the mail. But it's VERY impersonal and, frankly, you don't tend to see a lot of guests for the money paid.

And yes - Creation tends to get uptight about time as a result of this dedication to delivering and they often show it by being rude. It's utterly inexcusable. I've said it elsewhere in these comments but I really don't get how this company can have been around for so many decades and still have the feel of being unpolished n00bs.

Isn't that just so disappointing as to be heart breaking? At Gatecon, I had just started thyroid meds and the dose was a little too strong for me. I felt FABULOUS but when I saw the pictures...it was obvious that I had a shake going on. I still have a very slight muscle tremor even when the dose is correct so I'm looking for ways to negate this effect.

They do. Central and East Coast cons tend to get shafted but any along the West Coast tend to be well-populated with guests. I'm going to have my fingers crossed for you. I hope it works out!

Oh yes! I adore Debbie Reynolds and Doris Day. They both are incredibly talented who worked hard and who seem to be genuinely good people. I'm especially impressed by Doris Day who seems to have worked until she was done, retired, and devoted herself to doing good works that are important to her without looking to get praise or good press or even good will. Teryl strikes me as cut from the same cloth.

You have lots of people on your f-list who will know this sort of info and I'm sure there would be more people than you need, begging to give you the info. I won't hector you, insisting you take it, but if you want my notes or anything I'm more than happy to share. Please don't hesitate to ask. :)

I almost applied there for grad school because they have a good program in Quaternary Studies. Of course, then I realized that Calgary is like Houston only with Canadian winters. :| Vancouver is perfect for me. Mountains, temperate, rain, green, vegetarian-friendly, dog-crazy, diverse, and just plain friendly. :) Yup. Heaven.

What seat are you? Janet and I are A21, A22, so we're trying to figure out how close to center we finally are. (as we normally lean to the left. :D) They're announcing another guest soon, so I'm hoping it's Don. :)

But you're right about Teryl. She may not be a big name draw, but she leaves the fans feeling happy. (Ok, a trifle bit pissed off as they killed off her character.)

Rick Worthy (Imhotep, Cyclon on BSG) would make me happy. If they're smart, they're trying to get David Hewlett since SGA has a series future.

I'm very sorry that Michael had to cancel. But since they're feeling the need to pull out the stops and, yanno, get enough guests to warrant a 3 day con -- GUESTS THAT NOW INCLUDE TERYL ROTHERY!!!!! -- I'm totally not complaining.

I've been fairly pissy for a long time about how shafted non-California cons get on the guests. My disgruntlement was held in abeyance this time around because I saw Michael was scheduled for the cocktail party. I figured if the alcohol was free and in the hotel and at night AFTER his appearance, there was some chance of having an event with a pre-hung over Michael and that would be a refreshing change of pace. :)

There was a time that Michael cancelling would have ruined it for me. But I know better now. I know that I go for the friends and that I enjoy seeing Teryl more -- and apparently losing Michael's fee allows for Teryl AND another guest. Which makes easting 3 entire days of my short time in town almost worth it. I told Creation how unimpressed I was to see one guest fewer while the con itself took a day more. Not kosher. (Not, obviously, that the expanded guest list had anything to do with my bitching. Only saying I didn't suffer in silence.)

The loss of Claudia happened so long ago that I admit I'd forgotten. I was very sorry for that; I expect she'd be an absolute delight up on stage. Couldn't care less about Flanigan if you paid me. In fact, I'd planned to allow someone else to use my seat during his talk because his nasal whine annoys me to no end. :) Losing Michael would still be a blow - and I will regret not getting to lust over him - but he's no longer that important to my enjoyment.

I think it's hysterical that you even bother asking me if you can have any photos. Because you know how I never want to share the pics. *rolls eyes* OF COURSE you're welcome to anything I take that you like. Last year's photo disaster will NOT be repeated. I've got a plan. I'm bracketing and taking in several settings.

However, I wish to remind you that I do not take great photos. Photoshop is my friend.

Yanno, the last time I saw her, my finger kept slipping and instead of photographing her, I took some snippets of video during her cabaret and when she had my better half on stage, face planted in his chest. He, of course, was feeling no pain. :) I still haven't figured out what I need to do to make those, say, downloadable. Especially if my finger slipped again this time and that happened again.
