Endocrine Woes, Traveling to NJ Tomorrow

I've been fatigued for a while now. We're checking the usual suspects: my crappy thyroid, anemia, blood sugar. *sigh* The slowly deteriorating thyroid thing is something I'd happily have done without inheriting from Mom.

My blood sugar test results from awhile back seem to show chronic low blood sugar so I'm having the fun of pricking my finger and taking readings in case that's the cause. I didn't think that my blood sugar test results were that far off normal (within the test's error range, in fact) but maybe it explains the unceasing tired and fuzzy-headedness. I have never been anemic so it would be a new development if I were now.

Me, I think it's thyroid. Weight gain is a big clue. I won't be wearing the cute rose-colored silk dress I bought for the wedding below. :( I have never so fully sympathized with those who are diabetic. I cannot imagine having to inject myself with insulin several times a day. *pets endocrine system* Let's hear it for biofeedback!

[livejournal.com profile] mcroft and [livejournal.com profile] immlass, I don't know what your schedules are. Looking at our plans and knowing that you're headed in the opposite direction on Saturday night, perhaps Saturday lunch? Here are our plans:

Saturday -- Drive from Philly to NJ. Wedding, 4 p.m.
Sunday -- South Street Seaport Museum, Ships, Walking tour of southern Manhattan (Wall Street, The Village, Chelsea, Little Italy). Architecture photography.
Monday -- Cruise around Manhattan and Helicopter Tour, Central Park Tour (Yes, I intend to point out the wonder of the Met, which we aren't going to *sniffle*, and Cleopatra's Needle.) The first 2 will occupy most of the day, so Central Park is likely to be late-ish afternoon.
Tuesday -- Pierpont Morgan with [livejournal.com profile] jalabert (all day! woot! yay!). Closes at 5 so I'll probably drag Joe to Times Square because I think it's a law that City Virgins must make that pilgrimage.
Wednesday -- Driving tour of NJ pretty spots. Joe hasn't expressed a preference amongst Palisades or Princeton or eastern Penn so I expect it'll be up to my whim at the time. Maybe I'll wear my tattered old Harvard sweatshirt and see if I can get myself beaten up at Princeton. That should put off my return to Houston until it's cooler. :)

We want to fit in a Broadway play or two. The Spamalot tickets thru AmEx turned out to be available for 9/15 only so we're going to do a pot luck, show up at the half price booth kind of thing and buy whatever appeals most.

We are between Philly and most of NJ. Lunch would be faboo, if you have time. When do you get in to PHL?

Or email us...

We get into Philly close to midnight between Friday/Saturday. I'm working a full day before getting on the plane out. We plan to make our way to the hotel and check in early. We'd need to have an early lunch so that we could change into wedding wear afterwards. I'm not 100% how the schedule is going to work but I really want to see y'all while we're up there.

[identity profile] mcroft.livejournal.com 2006-09-15 12:17 pm (UTC)(link)
NYC is an hour+abit from us, as is Philly. If you're staying in Philly Saturday night and driving to NYC area on Saturday, we can be an on-the-way stop. We're about 1 mile off I-95, which is one of the interstate connectors between Philly and NYC, and .2 miles off US1, which is the older US highway version. We can figure out someplace to eat in this area.

If you're getting a car and heading to NYC from Philly tonight, then we can figure it out and come up that way. We know some places to eat, but we're not sure where your hotel is, so hard to plan.

You can IM me via gmail @ my gmail address if you want to figure it out on line from work today, to which I am about to go. Otherwise, email or call us Saturday. (you do have the phone #s, right?)

We're staying in Philly tonight (Friday night) and moving onward to the lovely environs of eastern NJ - total sarcasm there - on Saturday. I think we should plan to meet for a brunch, maybe?

Phone numbers. Well, yes, I thought you were in my cell phone. I pulled it out to double check and I find that I haven't added your numbers. I've e-mailed you my and Joe's cell phone numbers. When you have a chance, please give one of us a call. :)

I can hardly wait to see youse guys!

*grin* I loved it when I saw it and was so very pleased to note that [livejournal.com profile] mcity placed it up for adoption. A lot of others must have loved it, too, since he has it up for adoption on his user info.

I want it to have my babies, too!

Awesome! Hope I'm crediting this properly...

*hugs for you, smacks for thyroid*

And...that icon slays me.

Thank you. :) I'd love to trade in my thyroid, if I could.

I cannot thank [livejournal.com profile] mcity enough for this icon. I'd seen one very, very similar by [livejournal.com profile] spubba but with Rodney and Zelenka. I couldn't find where it was adoptable and I never got a response as to whether it was adoptable. I was, thus, doubly pleased to find this one AND have it be a general icon. :)

It's friggin' awesome.

[identity profile] betacandy.livejournal.com 2006-09-14 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Oy. I've had a lifetime of thyroid problems, and a lifetime of doctors who don't help and don't care.

I'm so very lucky to have found a doctor on my first try who uses the modern TSH numbers and who is willing to test me whenever I'm starting to feel run down. He understands that I feel at my best when my TSH is bewteen 1.5 and 2. It's entirely my fault that it went for as long as it did.

I feel your pain ever so slightly, though. I saw a different doc when my normal was on vacation one time. The office called me and chirpily told me that my TSH of 4.5 was totally normal. It is frustrating beyond belief to be denied proper medical care.

[identity profile] betacandy.livejournal.com 2006-09-15 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
I've had that very same chirpy call, with a quite condescending tone. I think doctors assume I'm a lazy slob looking for excuses for weight gain, even though the fattest I've ever been was maybe 30 pounds overweight. No, strangely, I was looking for explanations for polycystic ovaries and unhealthily irregular periods and so on. You know, stuff that can lead to cancer. But don't you worry, Doc - long as you've got them pretty numbers on that paper, you can't be sued, and that's all that matters. Enjoy your golf game!

I may be a tad bitter. :D

[identity profile] hsapiens.livejournal.com 2006-09-15 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I think the person who called me thought she was giving me good news -- look at that! you're all normal! -- because when I asked her about the TSH *number* and explained that the number was not, in fact, "normal," she seemed surprised that I wasn't all cheery, too.

But then, I'm much more likely to go in and complain of being exhausted, having trouble losing weight despite a very healthy diet, and just feeling generally "blah" than I am to be complaining about polycystic ovaries. :| While one is annoying and needs to be cleared for QoL issues, the other is far more dangerous.

(Ok, yeah, I'm also kind of vain and I hate that half of each of my eyebrows thins out waaaay too much.)

[identity profile] betacandy.livejournal.com 2006-09-15 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't tell me it's the outer half of each eyebrow that's too thin. People are always telling me I've overplucked, but it's just naturally sparse hair there. I've always had to fill in there.

I learned early on not to go in about exhaustion and all that. I must have gone to a good 6 doctors for it before I was 20, and they all just assumed I was lazy. Makes me hope someday they have a real problem and no one listens to them, either.
ext_1645: (Misc -- Onoz! OMG! (anim))

[identity profile] hsapiens.livejournal.com 2006-09-18 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
Absolutely, it's the outer half of each of my eyebrows. I don't pluck my eyebrows so I know it's a natural phenom. *shrug*

Man, you make me realize how fortunate I am in finding my physician on the first try. I'd hug him the next time I go for an appointment but I suspect that would weird him out. :)

[identity profile] betacandy.livejournal.com 2006-09-18 07:32 am (UTC)(link)
Well, that eyebrow thing is just one more weird thing we have in common, I guess. *g*

As for luck with doctors... not my strong suit. I've currently got two that I sort of trust, and if you'd asked me a year ago if that was physically possible, I'd have said no.

[identity profile] selmak.livejournal.com 2006-09-14 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll give your thyroid an Evil Glare. Maybe that will cause it to snap back into shape. :)

Hope you're feeling better soon! Especially since it's what six weeks til you come back to NJ again!
ext_1645: (Misc -- Onoz! OMG! (anim))

[identity profile] hsapiens.livejournal.com 2006-09-15 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
*hugs* Awww, thank you. I kind of wish they'd just remove it and do a total replacement like they'd do if I were hyperthyroid. It would be easier than having me feel good, feel run down, get tested, wait for results, change the meds, test again, and so on. I can end up with a 6 month down period that way.

I expect getting my TSH back down below 2.0 will do me a wonderful world of good. I'm hoping that's all it is. I'd also like to have my outer eyebrows back. :|

Wow! Is it only 6 weeks?!? I can hardly wait to see youse guys again!

[identity profile] triciabyrne1978.livejournal.com 2006-09-15 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
*hugs*

hope it's something that can be easily fixed.

Thyroids are a pain in the mikta.

The bro has to go for an FMA of his. He has a nice sized solid nodule and other issues going on at the moment.

*hugs*

A working thyroid would be a damned lovely thing. Hoepfully, just upping my T4 will return me to a more level playing field. They'll never medicate me to where I'm happiest, but I bet I'm well off even the more conservative mark.

*hugs* to your brother. Hope everything goes well for him.
