Hi, I got this from the Don S Davis Yahoogroups... the moderator asks if this gets passed along to make sure it gets credited...

**Don S Davis** RIP 30.06.08 at 2123 BST

Today, it is my sad duty as admin of the site to convey that Don S Davis (General George Hammond) passed away yesterday 29th June in the morning from a Heart attack.

Our condolences from the site and the fans of Stargate should go to Ruby, his wife and the rest of his family.

Ever since I started being a fan and then eventually a journalist, I have always been pretty judgemental of the actors and others that I have met during my long journey with the Stargate Franchise.

However, Don S Davis truly remains as my most favourite and fond memory of all of the Stargate franchise. He was just a normal chap, happy to have a job, happy to make other people happy.

He never had a bad word to say to anyone. He always embraced every fan (particularly the ladies :) and in a good way I hasten to add) and left them with a great sense of happiness and well being. One would walk away from Don on air, that was as I called it, the DON EFFECT.

He always remembered the fan that saw him every year, he was always a man's man, never afraid to shake the hand, stand up for people or down a bloody good malt scotch whisky. I keep finding things to add about him. I remember stories told by other cast members of him falling asleep between takes and other things too numerous to mention. Don 'papa bear' Davis. :)

He was very loyal to his friends. I clearly remember him standing up for me one day when I was supposed to be interviewing him and the organiser of the event he was at refused to let me. He met me in the hall with Ruby, his good lady and enveloped me in a massive trademark bear hug, then frogmarched me into his room to finish the interview. I shan't say what he said to the organiser, but suffice to say, he was very eloquent, respectful, but downright annoyed with them. I never saw that side before, but you could see that injustice grated on him and he never allowed it to happen in his presence.

How do you end something like this. Well you don't. I think that there was a lot of Don in the character of General George Hammond. A fair, just and loyal man, with a dash of a true gentleman and more than a fair squeeze of sense of humour. The most humous comment I ever heard was one from the DSD group. 'That ain't a bald head, its a solar panel for a sex machine'. That epitomises the true Don.

What more can I say! We've lost an amazing bright star to the universe, who is no doubt waiting for each of us ladies to pop in the shower so that he can appear AKA Daniel Jackson at the right moment! :) Let's not be sad, lets celebrate a truly awesome man.

Don S Davis
RIP
