76 Icons: Stargate, Dr. Who, Torchwood, Battlestar Galactica

The loss of my Photoshop hard drive slowed me down but since I had backups of my most often used stuff and a detailed list of resources, I was able to get back the stuff I most needed. I'm still missing my screen cap collection like mad. My older collection of SG-1 caps were stored on a separate HD that didn't fail. Thus? Lots of SG-1 icons and icons made from caps provided by various challenges.

Some of the SG-1 icons have been inspired by conversations with my LJ friends. The Daniel icons probably won't be overly popular this time around but after a discussion over at [livejournal.com profile] riverfox's LJ about the way that his glasses frame our perception, pardon the pun, of the character, I wanted to celebrate his glasses. Or lack thereof. Also likely to lack an audience are the Daniel/Sam icons but after [livejournal.com profile] moonshayde wrote about getting flames for writing incest because she posted a Daniel/Sam story...well, I started seeing it again in some of my caps so I went with it.

50 Stargate - mostly SG-1, a couple of SGA
20 Dr. Who/Torchwood
06 Battlestar Galactica

TEASERS:
++ ++ ++ ++

STARGATE SG-1 & a couple stray Atlantis icons. The Atlantis writers abused Aiden & Carson so they're now honorary SG-1 characters. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Bwahahahaha! Welcome to the Dark Side! When I finally broke down and bought user pic space, I had a fabulous time going "shopping;" I hope you're having lots of fun. :)

That Teal'c icon is a blast from the past -- the very first Teal'c I ever made! I have very fond memories of him.

Thank you for letting me know. I'm sure you're a great time but should you want suggestions for some more great SG-1 icon makers, let me know. I have lots of people whose work I admire.

When I first got an LJ I was mystified by the icon obsession; now I am a part of it. :|

In no particular order, my favorite SG-1 icon makers are:

[livejournal.com profile] psychofilly: Funny, sexy, colorful, and totally unique. She keeps a nice gallery, here.
[livejournal.com profile] pax89: 1000 pixel works of art.She keeps a nice gallery, here.
[livejournal.com profile] icon_ascension: I think she must work on a laptop because often her icons are a little dim on my screen but her ideas are fabulous and she's never derivative. She hasn't made a lot of SG-1 icons lately, sadly.
[livejournal.com profile] elfcat255: Expressions, funny faces, great sense of composition.
[livejournal.com profile] mata090680: Not normally an SG-1 iconist, she has made a few. I love her style.
[livejournal.com profile] aesc: Publishes her stuff over at [livejournal.com profile] discolore -- very different, a sense of the surreal or the unreal. Hard for me to describe but her work is beautiful and entirely her own. No gallery but she does tag.
[livejournal.com profile] beeej: Mostly, icons for SGA but sometimes she turns her sense of color and composition to a few SG-1 icons.
[livejournal.com profile] paian: I'm especially fond of her Jack icons. It's a shame she doesn't icon more, but that might mean less writing and well, lots of people can icon. Few can write. :)
[livejournal.com profile] winterfish: Humor! Pretty pictures! And a nifty gallery for shopping.
[livejournal.com profile] emosweet: She's an S/J shipper, which isn't my cuppa, but not all of her work is S/J and she is ridiculously talented. Nice gallery here.
[livejournal.com profile] ladyireth: Another S/J shipper but, again, lots of work that isn't S/J and lots of excellent stuff. Here's her gallery.
[livejournal.com profile] ninnui: More art. Love her color, love the feel of her icons, creative -- I just plain old love her work. She posts at [livejournal.com profile] _karmageddon_ and tags her entries.

I know I'm forgetting some folks here and I'm going to remember them as soon as I press, "submit" but this is hours and hours or shopping fun already. Hope some of this helps!

OMG thank you so much! I have already found Elfcat, but the others are new to me! And I can already see that I need another hundred userpics to do justice to all of them. Ooooh.....

You're welcome -- though you may not be thanking me when you find out that LJ won't sell you another 100 spots and you have to start making tough choices.

Oh yeah, rub it in. I've got a very few slots left. I totally cannot budget myself in icons. I need at least another 500 spots, darn it. *sigh* I'm so oppressed.
ivorygates: (WARGATE (iconsss))

[personal profile] ivorygates 2007-08-08 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, oppressed.

I think my problem is I see so many I like I just can't choose. So I end up not choosing any. So, um, it works out?

*grins*

I see so many that I think are excellent but they aren't "what I need" for expressing myself. But I want an icon for birthdays, an icon for congrats, an icon for sympathy, an icon for joy, etc. And I'd really like to have a complete set for each of the fandoms I'm in because it's a touchstone for how I know people. Then I want some that are clever, some that express my politics, some that are all about The Pretty, some that are Hot, some that are ironic statements about the show or the writers or my fellow fans...and I really, really need those extra 500 spots to properly express myself. *nods*

You might be unsurprised to learn I'm the sort who tends to read every card in the several stores in the vain hope of finding one that exactly expresses my feelings. I like to fine tune my message.

Then again? Sometimes I want to use an icon because it makes me laugh and not because it has anything to do with my comment. Like the one I'm using here.

I love that icon.

Some of my icons speak to the Stargate Condition. Most of them, of course, are Stargates. My favorite ones are the ones where the original image has been heavily-manipulated (like, er, for example, my signature icon *preen*.) A few are straight screencaps, but I'm always looking for heavily-worked icons, and those are my faves. I'm such a process slut.

*curtsies* Thank you kindly. I'm very fond of it as it makes me smile but also because I had to create the top of the hat that had been cut off in the cap and I had to find a beanie illustration to cannibalize. Which was harder than I'd have thought. It was a stretch of my skills - both with Photoshop and my usual "vision" - and so I like it for those reasons, too.

I am a sucker for composition. I rarely do something with a cap that makes it really different from the cap. It's a section of the cap, coloring and lighting changed (hopefully for the better), with maybe some text slapped on it. So I'm always blown away when I see a lovely composition. Like the icon I'm using. I've looked at it for a long time and still can't figure out how she did it. But it sure is pretty.

Ooooh, wow, yes. (I can haz new icon. See new icon me?) That's lovely.

The postmodern technology of the visual is entirely beyond me. I'll stick to words and cheer on the vidders and the manipers and the, um, iconographers? Yes. Iconographers.

So there.

That one was made by [livejournal.com profile] obaona and she makes the most amazing, work of art icons.

I'm all for lots of writers writing. :) That makes me very, very happy. We have more icons on LJ than we can possibly ever use here on LJ but we can never have enough well written stories.

Icon! (*stares at icon*)

*oooooh*

Yes. There are never enough good stories. (And my favorite writers should all write faster dammit!) Of course, I'm all in favor of more and yummier icons, too. I'm just greedy....
