OK...I corrected the base I used and came up with a not oversharpened, exactly the same otherwise version. Then I started playing. I really, really like the pic. :) I've got original, plain, vibrant, and b/w now:
I like these much better than what I originally came up with. I was surprised to find the b/w is my fave because now I can see the detail I was losing to the extreme contast in the original. Any how, thanks for mentioning it because that prompted me to revisit it.
btw, that Max icon is not yielding as well as this one did. The way PS reinterprets the image when it's shrunk is part of my problem. A re-work of that has me moving her eyeliner around and trying mess with her eyes. :| I'm not really interested in photo manip and so I'm going to let that one remain a "failed" icon.
