A little more info about each tutorial can be seen by hovering the mouse over the icon.

I wrote none of the tutorials linked here. That means that I did not create the icons. NONE of these are mine. Click on whatever catches your fancy to find out who made it -- and how. We're clear that other people's talent made this page, yes? Good.

Links, Links, and More Links!
Curves, the Wonders of Photoshop -- The definitive explanation of the mystifying curves adjustment and how it works. Richly illustrated.
An Icon-Making Guide by [livejournal.com profile] dtissa -- Detailed, useful list of how to make an icon. Includes lots of links to screen caps resources.
Icon Making Tips by [livejournal.com profile] call_me_daisy -- Basic, commonsense coloring and cropping but oh-so-useful
Campbell's Ginormous Guide to Icons -- It's sad that the images for this no longer load because a lot of the advice given here relies heavily on the pics. That said, this still has wisdom to offer.
Ooooh! Gradient Maps -- Richly illustrated guide to using gradient maps (my favorite tool) and the different blend modes.
Turning Image Packs into Patterns -- A new way to use the image packs that often accompany brush sets.
Exclusion Beyond the Dark Blue -- Exclusion doesn't have to be used for just that ubiquitous dark blue...it can do many other things. Short and all the info is in the comments.
Fill vs. Opacity -- What's the diff?
Screencapping in WMP and VLC -- Using freeware to cap your DVDs

Fonts
[livejournal.com profile] crumblingwalls made samples of three main font types: Pixel Fonts, Script Fonts, and Non-Script, Non-Pixel Fonts and labelled with the sizes she uses most often
Font Guide -- Sample icons with font name, font size, font tracking, and anti-alias settings in an easy-to-use table format. Includes links to download many of the fonts.
Making Text More Legible -- Super-clever ideas that are also very easy to do. Two examples - one for light text and one for dark. What could be better?
A different approach to text -- Using adjustment layers on the text only. Example icons with very specific list of point size, kerning, layers, opacities, and so on.
Commonly used, distinctive fonts -- [livejournal.com profile] fontaddicts are asked about these fonts over and over and over...
Another Useful Set of Fonts in Action: A page of icons with the distinctive fonts identified AND with links to download the fonts. Very handy. :)
Text Gone Wild: Beyond the Staid Text Layer -- Turn your text into a "work of art" by rasterizing the text layer and going wild.
I hate text -- She may hate it, but she has some excellent ideas, nonetheless.

Other Tutorial Indices -- This idea shamelessly stolen from Stargate-style homage to those who went before me...
