Yanno, it's criminal that I have front row, center seat but I don't have your photographic ability. (Or, I'd better have that seat. The ticket hasn't yet arrived in the mail :| )

I'd offer you a ride in the 2nd checked bag they let me take, but you'd have to lop off an arm and a leg to make the 50 pound weight limit. And once you've got 'em cut off, might as well hand them to the airlines for a seat anyway. The air is slightly oxygen-richer in the cabin. Or so I've been told.

I just ordered a preferred seat for Saturday.

AUUGGHHH! Reading my f-list is not making me happy today. First Katie, now you! I need an "I'm jealous of you." icon. Ok, ok, I'm happy for you, but sad for me. *whines* Teryl has not yet appeared on the Vancouver guest list. I have at ticket and am currently trying to figure out how I'm going to pay for the rest of the trip. And if Teryl and Amanda don't end up on the guest list, I will not be a happy camper.

I know you've got the primo stuff, too. Yeesh -- I need to think this over. I HAVE to get her to sign a pic from Dallas where she had her face buried in Joe's belly. That'll be an excellent surprise for him. But I don't want that to be the only thing I get signed. Geez - I was so happy that I wasn't going to be spending money on extra signatures or probably even photos this time around. THAT is out the window now that Teryl is there.

Awwww. *hugs* YOu get to be even more jealous of me: I'm front row, center. However, I'm MONDO jealous of getting to go to Vancouver. That is where I want to live so badly it makes my teeth ache. I betcha if Teryl is in town, she'll be on the guest list. She's an absolute gold mine to organizers. She might not have the draw that the regulars do, but she makes certain that fans leave happy.

I don't know how much time you have there or how much of a fan girl you wish to be, but I can dig out my notes about finding various places that Stargate shot if you'd like. For certain? Go to Simon Fraiser University: it's Tollana. And Horizons, a.k.a O'Malley's, is where they shot Upgrades. The food is EXCELLENT and the park around it pretty. Oh yeah, it's also where they shot the scene in Upgrades where they burst out of the Gate to take out Apophis's new mothership. :)

I totally and completely adore Vancouver. *sniffle* I'm jealous of THAT trip. :)

Hmmm...I'd take "Giddyup" in a heartbeat except that I've come to accept that I'll never in a million years see Amanda Tapping and get a matching autograph. :( I've got a couple of "half-signed" items and that's...disappointing.

I like Abstract, though, and that would eliminate the problem. I'd like to have that one, please. An 8" x 10" is perfect for me because that's just about the size of the drawer in which I store my autographs. How much should I bring for the photo?

I know what you mean... I never feel the stuff is "finished" until it's signed, and I've had to wait a long time to get some pics signed by both Teryl and Amanda. Luckily I have a nice collection now. :)

I just printed a 16x20 of that Abstract pic... I'm now looking forward to unfurling that in Teryl's general direction and having her mock me. I'd be happy to make an 8x10 for you.

Don't worry about $$. A couple bucks for the paper, max -- these things are way cheap for me to do, and I enjoy it.

What seat are you? Janet and I are A21, A22, so we're trying to figure out how close to center we finally are. (as we normally lean to the left. :D) They're announcing another guest soon, so I'm hoping it's Don. :)

But you're right about Teryl. She may not be a big name draw, but she leaves the fans feeling happy. (Ok, a trifle bit pissed off as they killed off her character.)

Rick Worthy (Imhotep, Cyclon on BSG) would make me happy. If they're smart, they're trying to get David Hewlett since SGA has a series future.

I'm very sorry that Michael had to cancel. But since they're feeling the need to pull out the stops and, yanno, get enough guests to warrant a 3 day con -- GUESTS THAT NOW INCLUDE TERYL ROTHERY!!!!! -- I'm totally not complaining.

Any photos I shoot that y'all want, you're more than welcome to them. I take a lot of photos but I'm a relative n00b to the photography world. I "solve" this problem by taking many, many, many photos and varying my settings. I get a lot of trash pics and if I'm lucky a couple turn out okay.

If I capture anything y'all want, I'm very happy for you to have it. You're asking for Terylicious, selmak is asking for Sel's site...I REALLY wish I took photography worthy of this hope. :|

I'm thinking of shooting some in the RAW format this time and seeing if processing it post-event helps.

Yanno, the last time I saw her, my finger kept slipping and instead of photographing her, I took some snippets of video during her cabaret and when she had my better half on stage, face planted in his chest. He, of course, was feeling no pain. :) I still haven't figured out what I need to do to make those, say, downloadable. Especially if my finger slipped again this time and that happened again.

Is there some "other" way to take pictures? ;) The only reason I have maybe half a dozen really fabulous shots of Ms. Teryl is because I've taken several hundred. Fortunately, she's a very tolerant subject.

You have no idea how much I'm looking forward to the impending silliness here.

I've been fairly pissy for a long time about how shafted non-California cons get on the guests. My disgruntlement was held in abeyance this time around because I saw Michael was scheduled for the cocktail party. I figured if the alcohol was free and in the hotel and at night AFTER his appearance, there was some chance of having an event with a pre-hung over Michael and that would be a refreshing change of pace. :)

There was a time that Michael cancelling would have ruined it for me. But I know better now. I know that I go for the friends and that I enjoy seeing Teryl more -- and apparently losing Michael's fee allows for Teryl AND another guest. Which makes easting 3 entire days of my short time in town almost worth it. I told Creation how unimpressed I was to see one guest fewer while the con itself took a day more. Not kosher. (Not, obviously, that the expanded guest list had anything to do with my bitching. Only saying I didn't suffer in silence.)

The loss of Claudia happened so long ago that I admit I'd forgotten. I was very sorry for that; I expect she'd be an absolute delight up on stage. Couldn't care less about Flanigan if you paid me. In fact, I'd planned to allow someone else to use my seat during his talk because his nasal whine annoys me to no end. :) Losing Michael would still be a blow - and I will regret not getting to lust over him - but he's no longer that important to my enjoyment.

I think it's hysterical that you even bother asking me if you can have any photos. Because you know how I never want to share the pics. *rolls eyes* OF COURSE you're welcome to anything I take that you like. Last year's photo disaster will NOT be repeated. I've got a plan. I'm bracketing and taking in several settings.

However, I wish to remind you that I do not take great photos. Photoshop is my friend.

My approach is more scattered than most because I don't have the experience to know how to set up a shot so that there's no more than a 1/xx-th of a second exposure because, say, I have a slight muscle tremor that blurs the pic. :| You're right, though, it's all about taking endless pics and hoping the planets were aligned just so and the pose was interesting and nobody else' flash overexposes your shot, and nobody bumps you, and on and on.

If you haven't been to any of the NJ events before, the lighting more than sucks. Dallas was so well lit that I thought they'd learned their lesson. It was a real pleasure to work with those photos. But NJ the last two years has been dark, dark, dark. It isn't limited to the venue because it was in two different hotels and both times the lighting was beyond bad. Hell, the first year, I had trouble seeing the guests from the 3rd row. I have a new flash just for this con. :| Don't know if that affects your planned equipment, but don't expect the Dallas-level of lights.

Oh, I think I'm starting to get the idea. :) I've been so lukewarm about this con for months and months and months. I even considered skipping it to go to museums instead. I'm thrilled now and can barely wait to find out who our new extra guest is!

It's rather funny as I went to a few forums where the Shanks fans were sobbing sadly about him not going to the con. Don't get me wrong, he seems like a nice guy, but I prefer the 2nd tier guests, the not-big-name actors/actresses as they seem to appreciate their fans more (Well, except for Amanda as she was rather impressive at Shore Leave as she kept signing to ensure everyone got their allotted autographs.).

I am curious about their next guest to be announced, everyone's hoping that it's a BIG NAME like David Hewelett, but i keep refraining from reminding them about budgeting. You know One Mike Shanks = Two second Tiers people :P

I'm avoiding the forums. I've been away from them for forever anyway but I made the decision not to look at any of them because I did not want to catch the Boo Hoo Virus. And I know I would. I really do enjoy photographing Shanks. But you're right, the "2nd tier" guests are more generous with the fans. I'm still marveling over Peter Williams (speaking of men to drool over) sitting down with us in the lobby for several hours and chatting about anything we wanted. Don's affable, approachable demeanor is such a pleasure. I'd be thrilled to see them -- or many others.

I have no idea how much David Hewlett would cost, honestly. I suppose he'd be priced comparably but back when I bitched to Creation about the lack of guests, I got the sob story about the price of airline tickets and how all the SG-1 actors apparently raised their appearance fees by a lot last year. As I said, I think they'd be smart to develop the Atlantis side of it but I'd be perfectly happy if they don't.

There are so many fine actors I've seen on SG-1 and who also pop up regularly on other sci fi series that I love. Oh! Steve Bacic (Coburn, Camulus, Rhade on Andromeda) would be a WONDERFUL guy to have. He's totally, utterly drool-inducing, even more so in the flesh, AND a real sweetheart. Now, HE would have me glued to my seat.

katiedammit takes mind-blowing photos. Seeing her Gatecon photos inspired me to invest in a camera that wasn't the point and shoot variety. Annie takes good photos. Maybe I expect too much from mine? I want in focus, engaging pics where one can see what was happening? Photos that don't take me endless hours in Photoshop? So far, that has only happened in Dallas. And I still screwed up most of the pics from there.)

Hey, depending on how much you're wanting to experiment -- I am planning to bring my monopod (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monopod) to this thing. It is nice and compact, but can really help with the blurriness factor. Would be happy to let you borrow it and play around.
