NYC: Museums, Actors, and Friends

Yay! I'll be traveling to NYC on October 30 and be there until November 6, a glorious week. The better half had his week at the Pebble Beach Concourse and I'm having mine in museums. I'll probably freeze my keister off but I'll have fun while freezing. On the agenda thus far:

MUSEUMS
- The Brooklyn Museum. Oh yes. Assyrian collections. Egyptian collections. I may melt from the overload.
- The Met. I'll be revisiting the Temple of Dendur, Mr. Nips (with a polarizer this time), the incredible Assyrian Reliefs, and may find time to move on to that modern stuff. Like Rembrandt, Tintoretto, and Canaletto. ;-)
- The Cloisters? The Frick Collection? The Museum of Natural Science (carefully avoiding all dioramas of funny brown people)? I absolutely adore NYC museums.

ACTORS
- Gale Harold and Blythe Danner. :) [livejournal.com profile] jalabert has kindly consented to keep me company at Suddenly Last Summer. What is the etiquette for getting playbill autographs? Do I lurk around the back of the building and hope to catch an actor/director/stagehand-type? I'm not likely to get shot or anything because I'm mistaken for a mugger, right?
- Michael Shanks, Cliff Simon, Carmen Agenziano, Beau Bridges. Stargate geekgirl heaven. :) Except...no Teryl. And that's just wrong. I better start figuring out what to have ready for them to sign. I've become blase about getting their autographs I have so many of them now. What a jaded fangirl I've become. Best enjoy it since this is SG1's last year. *sniffle*

FRIENDS

[livejournal.com profile] yams69 (the bum deleted his LJ account -- but I love him anyway *smooches, K*) And many others who are not on LJ (or haven't admitted to me that they are).

If the past is any guide, I'll be returning with multi-GB of pics and utterly exhausted.

Yay! I'm finally not completely all scheduled up when you're coming to town!!! I could definitely go for some museum-ing, especially the Met and the Cloisters, one of which is an old friend and one of which I've never seen. If you like, I've got a friend who lives not too far from the Cloisters and also near the only virgin forest left in Manhattan. If it isn't too cold that day, I could suggest that he join us and show us the latter location.

Weekdays are touchy for me because of work and some possible directing projects on the horizon, requiring rehearsals. But I'd be open to meeting you and whomever else after work for dinner if I end up with an unscheduled day. Mostly, though, I'm feeling happy about the Saturday and Sunday looming on my calendar with NOTHING ON THEM at the moment. :)

I just renewed my Met membership. :)

Excellent! I've been wondering about buying my own out of town membership. I was just perusing their catalog this morning. Given the number of Christmas gifts I buy from them each year, it probably makes a certain amount of sense.

I will be glad to come in any of the weekdays, too. I know Michael is out of days off, but we can do dinner again. :)

Gosh, I'd love to get e-mail notifications of comments within at least a couple of hours of the comments rather than days. :/

How many days would you like to go to museums? Oh! We could also spend time running around and taking pictures of architecture. I don't know anyone else who might tolerate doing that with me. :)

And definitely Michael should meet us for dinner. Since I'll be staying in the dining purgatory of Secaucus, I intend to eat my dinners in Manhattan.

Geez, our schedules are the inverse of each other. :( The con runs Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I'm considering the completely heretical notion of blowing off part of it (wonder who would get my front row center seat when I'm not there?) to go do other stuff.

I just tried to check the website for the schedule and it has a problem so I can't be certain when I'd be likely to blow stuff off. My first guess is Friday because that's typically become "filler" schedule. I have to register and hit the dealer room while it's still freshly stocked that day but the guests are likely to be unexciting. I don't know, really, how it will turn out because once the con starts, it's really about seeing friends and being stupid together rather than about seeing scifi icons. Man, but I'd love to go back to the Cloisters and wander around Inwood. There's NEVER enough time when I visit. I even planned my travels for Mondays since that's when museums are closed.

I DEFINITELY want to get together for dinner while I'm in town. So far, my itinerary looks like this:

Monday night/Tuesday morning -- arrive Newark
Tuesday
Wednesday
Thursday -- The Met / Suddenly Last Summer
Friday -- Register for Con, Friday night cabaret (or whatever they're calling it now)
Saturday -- Con from about noon to late night, I think
Sunday -- Con Breakfast to about 4 or 5, I think
Monday -- Leisurely check out and flight out of Newark

Either Tuesday or Wednesday is The Brooklyn Museum. I think Wednesday because [livejournal.com profile] jalabert has the entire day free. (I do envy the schedule of a college prof.)

Sunday, of course, is Gunpowder Treason Day. Hopefully you can celebrate it in style.

I have work M-F, but I can possibly get free for an evening, meeting after 7 or so.

No, wrong Thursday! That'll make it much easier.

Gunpowder Treason Day
*squints suspiciously* That's one of those literate-society things, isn't it?

I am looking forward to seeing you for dinner(s)! My handy-dandy, laminated, fold-out subway map is already packed.
