NYC: Museums, Actors, and Friends

Yay! I'll be traveling to NYC on October 30 and be there until November 6, a glorious week. The better half had his week at the Pebble Beach Concourse and I'm having mine in museums. I'll probably freeze my keister off but I'll have fun while freezing. On the agenda thus far:

MUSEUMS
- The Brooklyn Museum. Oh yes. Assyrian collections. Egyptian collections. I may melt from the overload.
- The Met. I'll be revisiting the Temple of Dendur, Mr. Nips (with a polarizer this time), the incredible Assyrian Reliefs, and may find time to move on to that modern stuff. Like Rembrandt, Tintoretto, and Canaletto. ;-)
- The Cloisters? The Frick Collection? The Museum of Natural Science (carefully avoiding all dioramas of funny brown people)? I absolutely adore NYC museums.

ACTORS
- Gale Harold and Blythe Danner. :) jalabert has kindly consented to keep me company at Suddenly Last Summer. What is the etiquette for getting playbill autographs? Do I lurk around the back of the building and hope to catch an actor/director/stagehand-type? I'm not likely to get shot or anything because I'm mistaken for a mugger, right?
- Michael Shanks, Cliff Simon, Carmen Agenziano, Beau Bridges. Stargate geekgirl heaven. :) Except...no Teryl. And that's just wrong. I better start figuring out what to have ready for them to sign. I've become blase about getting their autographs I have so many of them now. What a jaded fangirl I've become. Best enjoy it since this is SG1's last year. *sniffle*

FRIENDS
mcroft immlass jalabert selmak triciabyrne1978 janiekins moonshayde la_directora? yams69 (the bum deleted his LJ account -- but I love him anyway *smooches, K*) And many others who are not on LJ (or haven't admitted to me that they are).

If the past is any guide, I'll be returning with multi-GB of pics and utterly exhausted.

Stage Door Etiquette: Immediately after the show take your Playbill to the stage door. Make sure you have a good quality working pen with you--Sharpie pens are good on the Playbill material. Have the book opened to the page you want signed, the covers are sometimes black.

Just wait patiently and when the actors start leaving ask them politely if they would sign your Playbill. It's usually nice to comment on the performance if you're not tongue-tied.

Yup, Sharpie pen by the stage door is the best way to go. Just know that it doesn't guarantee success. Entirely depends on how tired the actors are, etc.

Let me know what theater you're talking about, though, and I'll see if my Broadway stagehand friend knows anything about that particular theater.

Total n00b question: stage door is in back of the theater building, yes? My backstage knowledge is limited to what I've seen on t.v. and Baker Shakespeare. Speaking of, I need to find out about this next semester's play...

Any suggestions/advice would be welcome. It's Suddenly Last Summer at the Laura Pels Theatre.

In fact, I rather expect to not be successful in getting Gale Harold's sig. My impression is that he's somewhat reclusive and not so taken with fans. I'll be disappointed but I won't be crying in my Cheerios. Hell, I've learned not to count on such things when I've specifically paid for them at a con. :\

Thank you for the advice. This will be my only opportunity to see Gale so I feel as if I should try. Sharpies have been my good friends since my days in the field as an archaeologist and they're still proving useful. Excellent point about playbill colors; guess I'll be packing silver as well as black Sharpies.

Tongue-tied will definitely be a problem for me. Embarrassing and pathetic but true. Perhaps if I practice, "Thank you, I enjoyed your performance," I won't embarrass myself? At least, until I accidentally say it to a stagehand. ;-)

I'm certain I will have an excellent time in NYC, even if I don't get Gale's or Blythe's sig. The city is energizing, the architecture is fabulous, and the museums leave me a happy, happy girl no matter what. Gale and Blythe are the icing.
